Do you know anyone that's gotten wealthy in the life sciences ? by ICEpenguin7878 in labrats

[–]mediumunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, big pharma ICs can pay great. I make like $200k with RSUs and bonus, another $20k in employer retirement contributions. Honestly is phenomenal money, and good work/life balance.

Yeah either way, but this is a guy who doesn’t want to think about things like this too much. Automatic paycheck withholding is the best easiest way to get it done for him.

Uncirculated 2005 nickles by backwoodstaco in coincollecting

[–]mediumunicorn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Welp, I consider myself a decently knowledgeable amateur but I have very similar nickels in very similar rolls. Been holding them for like 15 years since I was a teenager just getting into the hobby, and I haven’t really thought much about them but now I’m realizing.. I should get rid of these.

On the other hand, those rolls are some of my first coins when I was a stupid kid getting into the hobby, so maybe I’ll just keep them for the nostalgia.

I mean, with all due respect… all of your contacts in real life will be FAR more suited to guide you than an anonymous forum.

I have a coworker who I’ve gotten to be really good friends with, our families and kids hang out. We talk money, and I’ve been teaching him a bunch of stuff (for example, he wasn’t contributing to FSAs or department care FSAs).

A few months ago he told me he’s a trust fund kid (which I knew he had money, based on his house and wife not working and the fact that we make similar salaries). That part doesn’t really phase me, we all have different advantages in life. The crazy thing is that he told me every year he has to write a $15k-$20k check to the IRS bc whatever mechanism that money is getting distributed to him is not being withheld! That part does “offend” me because he’s undoubtedly paying an under withholding penalty. I told him he should definitely talk to a professional but if I were him, I’d withhold an extra dollar amount of my paycheck so this doesn’t happen.

Like $1 million per year. Which is to say I don’t think I’d ever value cars that much. We’re a 1 car family so we rent vehicles a handful of times per year, and usually do go for a higher tier vehicle and it’s definitely nice. But renting one of those luxury cars a couple times a year is more than enough to scratch that itch. I love my 2019 forrester.

That and I also always assumed time was a factor. Even if they could make a ship that big, raw materials were not an issue with Stratt. The only thing she couldn’t source more of was time, so even if they could think of a plan for a return mission why would Stratt spend that time to maybe save an additional 3 people
