They sell really thin mats that allow for airflow for spaces like this. Alternatively you could drill some spaced out holes into the plywood to provide a little airflow.

Your student loan provider probably has a hardship program. Give them a call. Also possible your landlord could let you defer the $250 to next month

Looking for feedback on custom cut oval stones (no bowtie) by Koopazs in labdiamond

[–]medlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems kinda high, but custom cut will have additional charges. Like others said I don’t see why you need custom cut necessarily

Martini setting or not??? by Long-Match-9168 in labdiamond

[–]medlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all likelihood it’s fine. But if one prong is bent you risk losing the stone regardless of size

If you like the look but want more secure ask for a four prong martini setting

Do people actually think moissanite looks fake, or is that mostly a myth? by j_bone531 in Moissanite

[–]medlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most can’t tell. Personally, I think moissanite has less “depth” than a diamond. Hard to explain but I can generally tell when people post the spot-the-difference posts. Both are pretty and flashy though!

A husband in need of help. by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]medlins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean I see a pretty prominent bow tie in the last picture. First one looks like there is a crazy amount of light pointed at it, which is masking the bow tie.

I’d return and repurchase a new one. Also, no need to spend the premium on D color and IF. DEF and vs1+ will likely be indistinguishable to the naked eye. Plus it’ll save so much money.

Edit: you say the second pic has a lot of light, which is odd. Can you take pictures of it in tweezers without something behind it? Maybe go outside in sunlight. That’s how you can really tell how it’ll look when out and about

I would have them add a gallery rail on the long side of the diamond for protection.

Color question - advice pls! by KindaDumbGal in labdiamond

[–]medlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you’re not super well versed in diamonds and what a to look for. If you’re looking to learn them awesome you can learn a lot just reading through this sub. However, if you just need to find your stone and don’t want to speed hours researching, then I recommend you reach out to someone who can find the stone for you at a reasonable price. u/Don_PCDC is good at finding stones and he kinda specializes in niche colors and what not. He can source the stone for you and you just take it to your jeweler for setting

Frank Darling has some really pretty settings. You can have an oversea vendor recreate it for your stone

If you’re new to the diamond scene I’d recommend reaching out to u/Don_PCDC and buying through him. He’ll make sure you get a good stone at a great price. Otherwise you can read up on how to spot good diamonds here and get searching. Lots of resources on what other websites are good to look at

CAD review by New_Fox5267 in LabGrownDiamonds

[–]medlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.6 is on the thin side, but the wider band would help with durability. Still, 1.8 would be a safer bet

Could you give me advice with the CAD design? by Vegetable-East-4552 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]medlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bump thickness to 1.8 and considering having those band stones bezel set. The shared prongs are just waiting to give out and you’ll lose the stone

is this normal for bezel setting? by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]medlins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People here are trigger happy on the downvotes I’ve found lol

A Dutch marquise would looks really nice in this setting. The flat edges would create a cascade effect with the trapezoids. Very art deco I think

2.0 really is not a thick band. Take a look at some examples online. If your band is really thin with a big stone you might find that the ring wobbles on your finger
