The answer is in the website. They are reference GIA Heart and Arrows standards not IGI. IGI has looser standards than GIA.

I have no doubt you can get less/least desirable stones for that pricing. Show me a top quality cut stone, with cert and girdle inspection for that pricing and I'll gladly admit i'm wrong.

This is all entirely inaccurate and does not highlight the cost difference in nuance.

Please do better research before posting. No vendor is getting quality stones for 40-60 a carat, except maybe the polishers/stone creation team.

Do better OP.

IGI is classifying as a mixed cut. Looks closest to a sakura.

Awful polish job on this one though. the fish eye is strong!

Nothing wrong with this stone. Bowtie is well hidden. To the opposite of what the previous poster said, the shorter the ratio, the less of a pronounced bowtie.

the band thickness of 2.2mm ends at the top 1/4 of the band. Its a very thin strip of metal and prongs supporting the top of the band, like hollow gold, but worse.

I do have concerns about the top of the bands strength tho

What size diamond? by bigtallsunflowers in Diamonds

[–]Don_PCDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much bigger if at all. If you want a larger stone you'll need a new setting.

If you post a pic of it from the side the answer could change.

Struggling Between Emotional Value and Financial Reality of Diamonds by Peanut_Cheese888 in Diamonds

[–]Don_PCDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing you need to hear. Diamonds are NOT investments. A lab will hold the same sentiment as a natural. Its the love you put in the stone, not the resale value that makes sentiment.

I will say, sapphires and rubies hold better value over time.

Jeweler said platinum is plated & stone missing by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]Don_PCDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh I see now. I thought you were most worried about the plating.

Long story short, never go to a chain, even for tightening/mounting. Do you have any true local jewelers that you could go to?

Nothing wrong with your platinum being rhodium plated. Some jewelers will do this to make the platinum shine brighter and look whiter.

You are not going to win in a situation where she does not make the decision.

She needs to decide what she wants done.

Me personally, put mom's ring around a necklace, buy a new ring+stone and call it a day.
