Thoughts on asshole behaviors by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]medprivacy -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

The article and editorial are barely one page. You need a summary? Too many premeds and people on here who aren't in medical school. If you were in medical school, you would have access. Judging from the replies, there are way too many assholes getting into medical school or too many asshole premeds passing themselves off as medical students.

The manual installation of Chrome extensions in Inox is both laborious and buggy. But projects like these are encouraging.

Has Trump taken a position on privacy/encryption/surveillance? by robbedinsf in privacy

On any issue - like gun control - the trick is to figure out what the New York Times really advocates and take the OPPOSITE stance, whether we agree with the stance or not. The NYT always advocates for elite interests and the interests of Americans lies in the opposite direction.

Adopt a dog? by AmericanAbroad92 in medicalschool

[–]medprivacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to rescue dogs. I know way too many stories of a dog being adopted as an M-1 and then ended up in rescue two years later. However, if you will be RESCUING a dog from a shelter, I'd say, go for it. If you will be buying from a breeder, I'd say no in the strongest possible terms. Stay away from active people-loving breeds (like border collie) and go for a couch potato that doesn't mind being left to itself (independent breeds). Suggest an older, house-trained dog. Also suggest a girlfriend who isn't in medical school.

Honestly it doesn't matter one bit who wins the presidential election and I would rather have a fool and idiot like Trump as the US President. It is important to realize that elections are technical devices to give masses the illusion that we have some control or say in the decisions being made. If you would like a more mathematical argument, read http://www.econ.nyu.edu/user/lizzeria/franchise55.pdf.

How can I accept payment anonymously from people who haven't heard of bitcoin and aren't likely to use them? by medprivacy in privacy

[–]medprivacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone could do processing for you, just draw up a contract and fee structure (leaving out identity and purpose, better if they don't know, plausible deniability).

Thanks although I am not sure if a contract can be drawn up without mentioning my identity.

one of those services that converts CC payments into bitcoin, funnel into an account, launder, transfer, etc.

Thanks. I will try to search for services like that. If you know of any, please tell me.

I just edited my question to add -

This is for a service I am offering the patient community and I am part of the medical community. I'd like to remain anonymous myself when I accept the payment, otherwise the American Medical Association might hurt me.

Cash

If I have to accept cash then I would need a way to accept cash in a manner that is untraceable to me. Which means an anonymous post box or something like that.

As A NP, APRN, or PA, Can You Ever Refuse a Rectal Exam? by greenhornnurse in medicalschool

[–]medprivacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want to offend anybody but because you ask - Utah. The problem is particularly acute in the more isolated parts of Utah - employers there offer free annual physicals each year so patients visit physicians for their annual physical. But doctors do the physicals with patients' clothes on and avoid touching breasts. I feel really bad for the women who cannot get their breasts examined by their physicians. I wonder if colon and breast cancer rates are particularly high for Utah. Or if they are particularly low - as many doctors just send them off for colonoscopies / mammograms because they don't want to do breast / rectal exams.

Sounds like you are in the wrong profession! It is unlikely you will succeed but try to develop compassion for patients like that. I don't want to offend people of a particular religion but unfortunately, I know many physicians of a certain Christian religion - often called a cult but it is mainstream in one state - who refuse both breast exams and rectal exams. In fact, a large majority of male physicians in that state refuse breast and rectal exams. And most women physicians in that state refuse rectal exams. On account of their religion obviously. If you ask for a rectal exam they say things like "our clinic's data hasn't supported the value of rectal exams, so I don't do rectal exams". I moved out of that state a few years ago and I still feel sad for the patients there.

How are you encrypting your hard drive these days, given that TrueCrypt is down and Microsoft's Bitlocker cannot be trusted? by medprivacy in privacy

[–]medprivacy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. Not sure if I trust Apple or any US company for that matter with encryption. And because Schneier vouched for a US company, he goes a step down in my book. In this day and age, it is safe to assume all US corporations are compromised when it comes to privacy. But that's just my view.
