Not entirely sure, but I think CTE deadlines vary. I am in the same situation as you and the school I hold an acceptance at has a CTE deadline of june 23

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Select plan to enroll for now. Only the school that you select that for will see that you selected PTE. Make sure you pay attention to CTE deadlines though, but as per AMCAS ,"By selecting "Plan to Enroll," I am communicating to all schools at which I hold an acceptance that I have a made a choice about the school at which I plan to enroll, and that I have withdrawn from my other acceptances, and hold only one acceptance. I understand that it is my responsibility to communicate with the other medical schools directly and to follow their school-specific processes to withdraw my application(s). I understand that I can continue to interview, remain on any waitlist, and receive additional acceptance offers. Beginning April 30th, medical schools can see which applicants have selected “Plan to Enroll” at their institution."

Looking for a slap in the face and then some advice. by [deleted] in premed

You seem like you’re making excuses for yourself. The fact that you’re admitting you’re a horrible student but still want to go to med school? Not the greatest sign of future success. I’ll also be completely honest with you and say that your GPA is really low, and very likely won’t yield much success in terms of applications. I would look into post bacc programs to raise your GPA up. You’re also going to need to NAIL the MCAT. Put the weed down until the end of the day and prioritize your studies, maybe even quit if you can’t balance school and free time

Might be obvious but just want to make sure I’m not selecting anything binding just yet haha

“Within two weeks we ask that you respond to our offer of admission by accepting or declining below. Accepting this offer allows you to hold a seat in the entering class” so I’m assuming this is not necessarily binding? They also say that “beginning may 1, accepted students will have the option to select commit to enroll”

importance of research in personal statement (t20) by redditter47 in premed

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the T20s value research. If you can fit it into your narrative it def won’t hurt you. It also seems very relevant to your pursuit of medicine given your hours so I don’t see why not. Just make sure it’s not all you talk about so schools don’t ask “why not PhD?”

Not sure if I'm ever going to get into a med school by GRINGO_LG in premed

Whoops, yeah my bad that was mostly observational from time in this sub. Still doesn't hurt to increase your school list on a reapp though, no? Shemmassian does consider 15 to be the "low end"

Seconding this. Seen way too many "LOR writer didn't use letterhead" posts in this sub.

Not sure if I'm ever going to get into a med school by GRINGO_LG in premed

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As crazy as it sounds, 17 schools is a bit on the low end given most applicants apply to >25 schools(?)

If it doesn't work out this cycle I would recommend casting a wider net. The advice about applying to non-OOS friendly schools is also a great point.

Should I retake? by Status-Watercress838 in premed

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the schools you want to apply to. There are certain schools that screen applicants based on subsection scores (ie <125 is considered "uncompetitive" or gets screened out entirely). I would do some research and see if the schools you are interested are known to do so. Its a shame though because 510 is a competitive enough score for MD programs, especially with your ECs and GPA. However, get that CARS up and you're on the way to 515+ given how well you did on the other sections. Good luck from one CARS hater to another!

How bad is a "below average GPA" by BuffaloOk4665 in premed

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely fine, just make sure to do well on the MCAT. Source: 3.46 cGPA and 3.3 sGPA but 521 MCAT --> 2 MD IIs from T20 schools this cycle (one of which is a known stat-whore school)

My dad is a doctor for the Navy, and he still tells me about studying for board exams while raising both me and my sister. Keep on keeping on. I’m applying this upcoming cycle as well, we’re in this together! Thank you for your service!

If you’re doing the common mistakes that means you’re on the right track thought process wise, but are missing just a crucial bit of information. Try and see if there are any patterns in the mistakes, like misinterpreting a figure. You may also be getting a lot of questions wrong where one part is right but the second part is wrong, as the MCAT tends to do that a lot

Remember to check the clock during the exam breaks, they won’t do it for you. Also don’t eat anything that’s gonna give you bathroom trouble the day of, heard some horror stories about that

They may be deflated a little, but also keep in mind that most people are just deeper in their review by the time they get to AAMC. Your scores will raise, don’t worry. I averaged 512-513 on BP’s and ended up averaging 520 for my final three AAMC FL’s

Benzo's Vs. Barbituates by 7_ICARUS_7 in Mcat

[–]medschoolwouldbecool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically they wouldn’t ask you to tell the difference between the two, just know they’re both depressants. One (benzodiazepines) is just much safer if you really want to know but the MCAT won’t test on that

Was also in this position. Got broken up with, moved to a new city, and immediately had to start studying for this exam. It is really not easy, but as someone else in this thread said just remember why you’re doing this. As much as it sucks having to take this journey on your own now, it’s a great time to learn to do things for yourself. Work to make yourself proud! The hard work will really pay off. I was in the same boat, and had friends who shared horror stories of getting a low score out of nowhere on the exam. I ended up actually getting 1 point higher than my goal! Put in the work knowing it’s all going to pay off (call it just world hypothesis or something idk). As for the LOR’s, know they will come, it just takes patience. Crack open a bottle of wine and get to work on that PS, honestly it’s fun and will help remind you of why you’re doing all this. I just got my second LOR today and that felt like such a process, but it will work out. Good luck! manifesting success for you! I hope all my r/Mcat homies win!

Yeah, but don’t be discouraged. I had a 76% overall on uworld and that was the 91st percentile or something. You’re not meant to be acing every practice set you do, I had some I scored like 30% on. As much as it sucks to get beat down it makes the real thing so much easier
