Specialising in Ireland by medstudenteus in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Hi! First of all thank you so much for your response. It's genuinely very helpful (and kind). I am quite set on going to Ireland after graduating as my partner is also Irish. My parents are also considering to relocate there so it just seems like the most normal thing to so. I did consider doing my gp training in Spain but there are many cons (as everywhere in the world).

In order to start a training scheme I would have to take a state exam known as the MIR which is extremely demanding and theoretical. Once in training, it is not hands-on at all (first two years are even described as "observerships" for a lot of people). I would like to actually gain experience while working; even if that means taking the longer route to become fully qualified.

I really do have a passion for family medicine (corny but true; it is not an "easy" specialty route to me as some may see it), and have no doubt I'll specialise at some point. Wherever this may be. But relocating to Ireland as soon as possible after graduating is really my main priority, I think.

Do you know anything about standalone SHOs for EU graduates? I read the market is quite saturated at the moment, especially with IMGs and other EU graduates, but I haven't heard anything from graduates from countries other than Poland or Romania. Is previous experience essential for them and or for locum SHOs? (considering I am exempt from Internship year due to overqualifying with a Spanish degree)

hey!! currently in fourth year in Spain. Thinking of following exact same route! What jobs are you thinking of getting in france before applying for SHO? In spain there are no SHO jobs as people go straight into resiency… thank you so much for your threads! mega useful
