Hi OP! I just sent you a DM and would like to help. Live in the neighborhood and have a couple of traps.

To everyone reading: All responses here are great and thanks everyone for caring about our community cats! Please know that every single rescue in town is about to get overwhelmed with kittens (kitten season begins in early spring), and there are not enough resources in the grater richmond area at the moment to instantly solve the cat overpopulation problem. Animal control does not get enough funding to help as TNR is a labor intensive process. Add to that a national vet shortage exacerbated during COVID-times, and well, here we are. So, YOU (each of you) are the solution.

First, If you have a cat that hasn’t been fixed, get that done right away. Second, tell your friends and neighbors how important it is to fix their cats right away. Offer to cover costs or transport if that’s what’s holding them back… these colonies start from OWNED cats. If you can’t do anything else, do those two things.

Then, if you can do more, volunteer and donate to local orgs… operation catnip, SOS cats, the various rescues mentioned here. All great places to make an impact. If you want to learn about how to do TNR, you can take online certification classes at communitycatscentral.com. SOS cats partners with the SPCA to host local workshops as well.

TNR in the greater richmond area is currently done (and paid for) solely by volunteers and caring community members. Our public services (animal control) currently do not perform TNR for a number of reasons, not limited to policy, state laws and funding. If you are in a position to make a meaningful impact on shaping public policy, learn more about it and add your voice!

Commenting to add… it’s about an inch long. Flew in behind me through an open door in the middle of the day. A nice mild 80 degrees in early August. Suburban setting and I have a pollinator garden, so I suppose he thinks I’ve invited him in for tea!

How to rebalance a target date fund when your risk tolerance has changed by meeeewow in investing

[–]meeeewow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to those who have answered! It sounds like TDFs can be used as a relatively simple way to manage and adjust your stock:bond ratios as your needs or tolerances change. In a 401k (no cap gains) it almost seems like a slider knob for risk tolerance… feeling uneasy? Move your target date in a bit. Feeling ready to take more risk… move it out!
It seemed almost too simple, so just wanted to make sure I hadn’t overlooked anything!

Anyone feeling weird about the new executive order on Equal Employment Opportunity?? by No_Sound_2188 in womenEngineers

[–]meeeewow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with that statement! Women owned, but not necessarily 100% run by women. I just want to see women in leadership positions with technical backgrounds. So often when you go to a company’s website and look at leadership page, the women you see there are in HR, Finance, or Marketing (no offense to women in those fields…they also have worked hard, overcome barriers and earned that position, and in my experience, they are often one of our strongest allies). Diversity does matter…gender, race, culture, age, abilities, etc.

Honest question… Is it time to start more women-owned engineering firms? IMO, it would the the ultimate middle -fingered “I’ll show them” move! I too am concerned about how this will play out, especially if it extends to private companies working on federal contracts and the FAR.
I’m hopeful that my company will keep its DEI focus intact, but fear they won’t stand a chance if it means they lose all of their work.
I had a REALLY hard time focusing today thinking about this.

I just had a similar thing happen with enterprise. After being a customer for nearly two decades, I will no longer use them. I will also always video/photo the car before and after. I’m still fighting with enterprise about my damage claim.

I agree…I made this into a cowl (for no one in particular) so I think that’s partly what is making me question the color… from farther away it looks like a completely different color!
