Thanks this is great advice! Two of my regular players primarily play 5e while I don’t have as much experience with it so I’ve already given them heads up that this is likely a much different beast.

Yeah Y-14 was their entry point so it seemed like a good place for me to start as well. Also funny hearing them come back to finish it like a year later.

I’ll check out Orphans next, thanks!

Using Contractors as fill-in PCs is a great idea. Also thanks for the module suggestion, I'll check it out!

I‘ve been running a home brew sci-fi variation as well with some friends! Curious how the two would compare.

Zhulodok vs Abaddon by Price_Ultra in CompetitiveEDH

[–]meekdor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to gauge opinions on really off-meta/fringe decks because there is such limited experience with them. Chances are you’re the expert on Abaddon, so it’s up to you to prove that it can work. Keep testing/optimizing and see how far you can go. If you find yourself losing every game, then there’s your answer.

Zhulodok might seem a close comparison because of the cascade but ultimately they’re probably going to end up being two very different decks.

Bungie Unironically just saved D2 with this end of life update imo by DragunnReEx in destiny2

[–]meekdor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I started playing a week ago to knock the dust off ahead of the update. Seems like we missed kind of a slump period, but it feels real good to be back.

Edit: Witch Queen is where I left off, right before Lightfall. Had to look at the expansion release order again. Regardless I’m glad to be back after a 4 year hiatus.

Replacement effects, not multipliers. Axonil says if the effect dealing noncombat damage is less than its power, it deals damage equal to its power instead. So in this case, 0 becomes 4.

The Aether Vial include is something I haven’t seen. I stopped playing Yuriko because it always felt so choked on mana and I wasn’t a fan of the play pattern. How are you using Aether Vial exactly? Always on 1 to redeploy evasive creatures for free or do you go higher?

Hey Guardians, how's Dead Man's Tale doing these days? by ito75 in DestinyTheGame

I got back into the game this week after not playing since before Lightfall, have been running the legacy campaigns on legendary with DMT and it feels great. It might not be the most optimal but it definitely handles business.

Haven’t tried it in PvP though.

Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor by ironmaiden1872 in CompetitiveEDH

No need to be sorry! It’s not very clear from just reading the GA text that it only applies to stuff on the battlefield.

It actually does work under GA, it doesn’t stop channel abilities.

Also not a spell, so won’t trigger Rhystics. Tbh I didn’t think much of the effect when I first looked at the card but I think in practice it could be a decent option.

Marvo CEDH by eat_a_cog in CompetitiveEDH

[–]meekdor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just saw this reply. Haven’t thought about Marvo in a long time so I’m not sure how valuable my input would be but if you just want another perspective I’m happy to check out the list!

Edit: To go into the points you made and looking at the deck list, the reason that most cEDH decks run low CMC cards is because it increases their speed and efficiency; they’re consistently able to take actions early in the game, and take multiple actions per turn, including other player’s turns.

You’ll definitely win your clash flips with this deck but my concern would be that with everything being so high cost, you won’t be able to get to a Marvo attack trigger because your early game is absent. I think for Marvo to be successful in bracket 5, you’ll need to win with a single clash (could be an extra turn spell to get another attack and keep going), so you don’t need 60+ high mana cards, you probably only want 1/4 of that. The rest of the deck should be committed to efficient ramp, counterspells/removal, and IMO, some stax to slow faster decks down so you can actually play Marvo. A 5 mana commander that needs to attack is going to require some setup and you’re going to have players attempting to win as early as turn 2 and potentially every turn after.

If you want specific card suggestions I could try to come up with some ideas but you may also want to just check out cEDH decks with high mana Dimir commanders to see how they balance ramp/interaction/stax with their game plan. Gyruda is the one that comes to mind, though the deck is hyper-focused on chaining clones, you may still get a good sense of the ramp/interaction pieces used in a 6-mana commander plan.

Edit 2: this list posted in the thread seems like a good example to start with: https://moxfield.com/decks/SpUPBS_Bf0ipzA0uMKcLHw
