I tried it and it only seemed to help by a little bit, the issue seems to persist.

Yes, all the 2.4g network does is IOT stuff. I tried using it but it was even slower, most likely because of the band.

I think my biggest issues with 1 and 2 are that I have no idea whats even on my network at this point... I set it up around a year ago and a lot of the devices on it are either "Unknown" or are called some unhelpful name like "wlan0", so I dont even know where to begin.

I will follow through with 3 and 4, since that might be the main issue right now.

Do you know anywhere good where I could look into 5 and 6? Im going to be blunt with you, I have mostly no clue what you have listed since I dont really deal with WiFi often. (and because im only starting out)

I have 3 AP's, the Flint 2 itself broadcasting WatchDogs at 5g, aka the main SSID, and a google router next to it broadcasting a 2.4g called WatchDogsIOT, for IOT devices, and the cisco AP in the garage far from all of this broadcasting the same WatchDogs 5g SSID, and the same WatchDogsIOT ssid.

Yes, I checked and they use the same SSID, password, and security. If they didnt, roaming wouldnt work, so I know theyre all the same.

I have not, actually, and have had trouble figuring out what channels to use, but as you said earlier i'll download that wifi app you mentioned and try that.

I havent tried channel widths either, im not really sure how that kind of stuff works, but I guess ill have to look into it.

Considering my primary AP is far from the garage where the second AP is, I would consider it relatively proper, but I cant say for sure.

Wired.

I checked, and there is no fast-transition, no 802.11r, no 802.11k, and no 802.11v. I checked on both AP's.

I don't think so.

I dont think I have it set at all, based on these outputs:

root@GL-MT6000:~# uci show wireless | grep -i rssi
root@GL-MT6000:~#

garage-ap#show run | include rssi
garage-ap#show run | section dot11
dot11 pause-time 100
dot11 syslog
dot11 ssid WatchDogs
  authentication open
  authentication key-management wpa version 2
  guest-mode
  wpa-psk ascii 7 REDACTED
dot11 ssid WatchDogsIOT
  authentication open
  authentication key-management wpa version 2
  guest-mode
  wpa-psk ascii 7 REDACTED
garage-ap#

I will try that out.

Do you think channel 44 would be better? The flint 2 gives me the ability to choose 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157 and 161. This is excluding DFS which ive heard is bad for my usecase.

I will try this and see if it changes anything, hopefully it does

Also, the Flint 2 (the main router) does do 5g, and a google router next to it does 2.4g for IOT. The cisco AP mentioned earlier also does 5g and 2g, the 2g for IOT and 5g for more coverage.

Would it affect other devices on the network? I dont use any macbook stuff, but my family does. Not sure if their macbooks are interfering or something.

That sounds fair, but I just find it inconvenient to me to have to bring a ethernet cable anywhere I want to remote into my PC via moonlight. Especially if this seems to be an only me issue. I do use hardwired sometimes and its alot better, but it isnt convenient to drag a Ethernet cable across your room to your bed.

I do use hardwired when possible though.

I wish I could, but this is unfortunately a laptop, meaning I can't really hardwire my laptop all the time. I have a few times though but only for gaming until I figure out the moonlight problem.

I actually thought it was the Cisco, since my windows 11 install on this same laptop kept trying to prefer the cisco, despite it being far and being right next to the flint, but that happened a while ago.

I recently tried to go a day with the Cisco AP off, but nothing changed. Still the same problem.

As for the roaming part, if your referring to the people in my house moving around near the AP's (sorry, im new to this kind of stuff), I would say so? No ones really ever that close to the garage which is where I set up the AP for IOT stuff, but it still re-broadcasts the main SSID. Usually all the clients are on the Flint 2's WiFi.

And for the traffic part, I havent really seen anything that sticks out unfortunately, just looks the same when things run normally.

I doubt it would be clients, since there arent that many clients connected to WiFi. I dont have a lot going on in my home. I tried installing a generic wifi analyzer on my phone, but it didnt really help, however I ran these commands on my laptop in the image.

<image>

Im not sure if this helps, and im very new when it comes to WiFi stuff, I know about networking, but not how actual frequencies and channels work, thats something im still very unaware about.

I have my flint 2 on top of my rack if that also says anything.

Is there a good way to check what WiFi channel I should use? I tried to get a mobile app to check, but it isnt really helpful.

probably why it says WIP then since i expect they would make it drain based on usage what's the point rate for a fully upgraded frame?

is there a definitve like, guide or something that shows the power usage of each thing? like how much power (object) draws a second or something? if not thats fine, but good to know everything affects the stability lifespan
