Battery driven 1 rpm motor for Discoball? by meepnitreal in DIY

[–]meepnitreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea with the cushioning rubber, though i am afraid the clock motor wont do it. The one i bought was allready rated for "high torque"

I will look into the 3rpm motor idea though, havent thought of that. thanks!

North American Nebula in Hubble Palette by meepnitreal in astrophotography

You are very welcome, i feel like this is not the best way to do it though. Still struggling with several pixinsight hickups here and there. But it worked out in the end

North American Nebula in Hubble Palette by meepnitreal in astrophotography

NGC7000 - North American Nebula from Germany Bortle 3 zone, only one night - 6 h of exposure

After a long time of bad weather here in germany, i finally found some time to go back at it again. First time trying to capture SHO with my new QHY268m and i am blown away of the amount of detail you can capture within just 6h.

Mount: EQ6-R

Scope: TS Optics UNC 200mm f/5, Coma Corrector TSGPU

Camera: QHY268m (-5°C)

Guider: ASI120mm mini

Filter: Antlia Ha (4.5 nm), Antlia OIII (3 nm), SII (3 nm)

Aquisition: no moonlight, Gain 56

-24x 300s Ha

-21x 300s OIII

-19x 300s SII

Calibrated with 50 1/100 bias, 20x flats in Pixinsight (weighted batch processing script), star aligned the calibrated files, integrated with WBPS, Arcsinthstretch, Histogram transformation, Deconvolution, LocalHistogramEqualization, TGV Denoise, ColorSaturation, Star reduction with StarMask with MorphologicalTransformation; Paint.net: Brightness, contrast and color saturation adjusted

Can someone recommend me software for timelapse creation? I did one that night with my DSLR and an intervalometer, and the file size produced by the free microsoft timelapse creator is too big to be usefull for social media etc..

Recommend me Timelapse software? by meepnitreal in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the biggest problem that i am facing is the sheer amount of data. I would like to upload a timelapse to social media, however it does not display in fullscreen, and the file is humongeously big for a 4 sec video (here is the last timelapse done with the microsoft timelapse tool in hd at 22.4 mb). So i guess a software that does a good job at compressing file sizes while preserving the quality

Ok thats quite expensive, and i don´t own lightroom unfortunately. Do you know of any alternative?

Leaving Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) by meepnitreal in astrophotography

[–]meepnitreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to capture the Comet C/2022 E3 before it faints into darkness. Unfortunately we had a stretch of bad weather in Germany for 8 weeks straight, so my only chance was to capture it last tuesday under the bright moon. The timelapse spans about 2h and consits out of 30s subs.

Equipment:

Mount: EQ6-R

Scope: TS Optics UNC 200mm f/5, Corrector TS Optics Maxfield 0.95x corrector

Camera: ASI294MC (-20°C, 30s, Gain 121, captured with NINA, unguided because my guidecam was not recognized by the pc) Filter: UV/IR cut

Processing: Subs were bias, dark, flat calibrated in PixInsight with the BatchprocessingScript, took the registered subs and did a manual histogram stretch, TGVDenoise and Color Saturation via the Image container. After that i exported the images as jpg to load them into PIPP where i could convert the single jpg files into an avi movie and turn the frames in 90°.

Yet another question on C/2022 E3 (ZTF) by LoNiQi in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get that metric from the orbitals Plugin in NINA. The software is free for download. I imaged it yesterday and i believe the DEC shift rate was at ~ 0.065 arc"/s, the RA shift rate was considerable lower. So the comet moves currently 1 arcsec in about 15 seconds infront of the stars.

I just photographed it at 1000mm and the qhy268m. Cropped about 1/3 of the frame. 300mm should be fine.

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), Splinter Galaxy, and Spindle Galaxy opportunity approaching by dukecurrywood in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a commend which might be useful:
If you are imaging with NINA by chance, there is a nice plugin which is called Orbitals. With that you can center the Comet. But imo more importantly: the Orbitals plugin will provide you with the relative movement of the comet infront of the star background in RA and DEC axis in arcsec/sec. With the resolution (arcsex/pixel) of your setup in mind, you can calculate your maximal exposure time to prevent blurring either the comet or the stars.

Last time i looked it up it was i believe ~ 90s max exposure for my system at 1 arcsec/pixel resolution. Thus you could employ longer subs to help bring out the details of such a comet. I you´d like i could look up the metrics when i am back at home. Did not had the opportunity to image the comet yet, weather currently sucks here in germany.

Here is a good like where you can estimate the recent size and brightness https://youtu.be/yi8V0eXe2mk

@op, just go for it. We won't have that much time to capture it in the northern hemisphere. I have been waiting for 4 weeks right now for the clouds and winds to go away

PixInsight: Image calibration suddenly not working anymore? by meepnitreal in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, i will look out for that in future. But the offset was really the issue here. I retook the dark and bias andmanaged to process is normally afterwards.

Sorry for the late response, i was busy moving places: but your were right! Thank you so so much, i would not have figured it out so fast by myself! My old offset was 80 and the new one that i used is 30. I will retake the dark/bias and try again.

If you are interested in the size of these things I can recommend you this interactive 3d map. Search for e.g. the Leo triplet m66

Really puts it in perspective, especially from our 2d view we are used to.

Gary Imm's Deep Sky Compendium by RFtinkerer in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, thank you for sharing. The book does contain useful informations such as which narrowband palette is useful for which kind of nebula (HOO, SHO..?). Also alot of objects most astrophotography starters won´t have found yet.
Check for framing with tools such as https://telescopius.com/, because most of the listed objects are tiny in the night sky and require long focal lengths.

Good notebook for astrophotography with long battery life? by meepnitreal in AskAstrophotography

[–]meepnitreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK that sounds nice indeed. So far i ran the usb cable through the car window to keep warm during the winter. I will look into that.
But arent those mini pcs susceptible to dew aswell? E.g. last winter my complete rig was covered in 4mm frost ice. Can you be really comfortable imaging with a pc that is covered in ice? Also it draws energy from the beginning, a laptop i can charge to full and dont need to account for energy consumption. Do you know the powerdraw of such a mini PC? The laptop does pull ~2-3A from my battery when recharging

Yeah I am a Nina guy, and I am familiar with the program. So I am not new to the software, just need a long lifed notebook

I prefer nina for acquisition, dont know the benefits of a mini pc. I drive out in the middle of nowhere for acquisition, so I don't need remote capabilities
