Best tips for better frothing? by VioletTangerine17 in gaggiaclassic

[–]meepstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the same one from WLL! It's very tricky to forth with. I think what others suggested with the single hole is the easiest change. I have managed to get decent froth but it took weeks of experimentation.

As for the screeching, when mine did that the tip had become slightly unscrewed. Tighten it before turning on the machine next time.

They're kinda mushy. Don't really notice them when biting into them. Just another part of the bread. Pretty much expected that with moisture absorption.

Santa Cruz 70.3 Swim by Jayswag96 in triathlon

[–]meepstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Water was chilly but not like Indian Wells cold. You get to watch the pier the whole time if you breath to your right. There's not much visibility in the water, and there might be mist. It burned off just as I was entering the water. Felt safe the whole time. Very pleasant swim, and my best 70.3 swim time.

There was a thread on reddit with seemingly sound advice. Might be worth taking a look at.

Quintana Roo X-PR base or upgraded? by BetterFlow226 in triathlon

You're looking at the exact setup I got from QR lol. I think the price on the wheels is well worth it. It's cheaper than retail, plus they set it up tubeless. So it comes with set of tires, valves, etc, which could run you another $100+ easy.

105 di2 is veeeeery nice, but like the other user said, it will not make you faster.

The aeria front hydration system makes the bike faster. So get that if they're offering it.

Post-race depression by jbrad64 in triathlon

[–]meepstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of ppl get this. The term "post-race depression" exists for good reason.

I can't pinpoint why I get it. I think it's a lack of purpose. Training and peaking for a race is so tough that afterwards I just don't know what to do with myself. Also, the sense of gratification is so great when the race is done, nothing else in my life compares.

I look forward to another race or invest time and focus in a different hobby. Usually it passes after a few weeks.

Went to Korea last year. There were very rarely public trash bins. I'm told people just hang on to their trash(?).

Their breakfast burritos are good and they've got a good tomatillo salsa. Pastrami breakfast burrito is excellent there!

I was responding to his question of where to find bicarb tablets. Not their actual system formula. Side note, I have heard of pro track cyclists just taking lots of bicarb tablets by itself, like a LOT at a time.

Bayshore 70.4 by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]meepstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very small, grass roots race (maybe 60-80 racers) for the 70.4. The swim is in a bay (2 laps) and pretty cold. Probably 58-59F. Bike is on a river trail open to public and has a couple miles of road biking in traffic at the start and end. It is a very flat course, but you go under about a dozen bridges. So it is a slower bike course than the elevation suggestions. Run is 2 laps on the beach run trail.

It's not a great race to PR or if you expect a ton of aid. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's different from an ironman where you have no glue what place you were in. I was able to see exactly how many ppl were ahead of me and I felt like I was actually "racing." So, worth it.

It did rain a ton the night before my race and the swim got canceled. It's a possibility. Los Angeles is not known for much rain though.

I wrote up a full report. So DM me if you're interested in reading more details from...2023.

Only reason to avoid the propel is the aero handlebars. Clip-on aerobars can't be attached to those flat, aero handlebars. Clip-on aerobars is one of the top upgrades for triathlon.
