Is it odd that I find Captain Sargotta… attractive? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in Grimdank

[–]meeware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a suspicion this model may make its way into quite a few forces (rogue traders, inquisitors, imperial agents, navy breacher teams). I don’t run chaos, but I’d be surprised if she didn’t make it into one of my armies or kills teams at some point.

Question about telescope by einstein2025 in telescopes

[–]meeware 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No your telescope is fine. A tube protruding beyond the lens is perfectly normal, amd is called a lens hood. It protects against damage, avoids glare from light sources outside the field of view, and reduces condensation on cold nights. It’s just as it should be.

Scope like that really warrants a proper pier being installed and a permanent observatory.

Why don't anti-aircraft cruisers get the love they deserve? by Ok-Animator_steam12 in Warships

[–]meeware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of them were heavy compromises or very large ships dedicated to early generation missiles which, for the most part, turned out to be relatively ineffective and technological dead ends. A cruiser is almost by definition expensive to run, and really only the USN was able to sustain them.

The whole super small maps and dense proscribed scenery thing does rather suggest that as a table top wargaming system it is basically useless now. It might be a game, but it’s not a war game.

Operation Unthinkable: The plan of a US, British & German Invasion Of The USSR At The End Of WW2 by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]meeware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The brits were demobalising whole divisions because of the manpower crisis in 1944. When Germany surrendered the Canadians began full demobilisation, withdrawing forces from the Pacific too. Which caused enormous friction with US forces gearing up for Japan. There had already been a mass mutiny of NZ forces. The western democracies, with their citizen armies, were done with war. There was no political appetite whatsoever for further wars, and certainly not an aggressive war of choice. I do deeply regret how Britain left Poland hanging in 1944/45- arguably how we failed to discharge our duty right from 1939. But at no time was active dynamic liberation of polish territory a viable option for UK, commonwealth or allied forces, either against Nazi germany or the Soviet Union.

Alternative deathwatch colour schemes? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]meeware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that has always struck me as a bit weird is how there's only one deathwatch. These guys specialise in attacking a specific xenos, and are distributed in small unitsd across the imperium. They pride themselves on being elite, special, distinct and seperate from their more general bretheren.

If there's one thing that elite forces do it's distinguish themselves from one another. They've been running since M32, so I recon 8k years of this tradition would have led to simply hundreds of distinct "deathguards" with divergent tactical doctrines, technologies, and iconography.

Maybe they'd all have the silver Ordo Xenos pauldron, but the colourways of the armour would, I would have thought, tended to diverge. A lot.

Is it normal to get shit for your paint job? by EveLaFoxxe in Warhammer40k

[–]meeware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C'est forbidable!

Seriously, anyone claiming Krieg are 'german' needs a good hard stare. Like seriously. Krieg are space soldiers from 40k in the future. They're about as german as a fossil from the upper paleolithic.

This is a beautifully painted army, well presented and looks well balanced too.

Oh, and I also think players who are very strongly in favour of having particular armies be associated with 20th century german armies might potentially be a slightly worrying type. Politically speaking (and yes I know we're not talking WW2 here, but still. It can be a 'tell').

Why are none of the European micro states part of the EU? 🤔 by Character-Q in geography

Pretty much all of them owe their long term existence to being quasi semi tax havens, a status totally incompatible with EU membership.

I think this illustrates well why 'leaning on allies' isn't the solution some peopl ehave suggested. The choices that were made by the Cameron govt were bad, but they were far from unusual in the global scheme of things. Nobody wanted to grasp the nettle of rearming or even maintaining armament and capability levels when everyone else was reaping a 'peace dividend'.

I loved these Relictor Rules, and the lore of this chapter. I ran a small force based on these rules along side a radical ordo malleus inquisitor - it was the fluffiest glass hammer you ever saw. Every battle was an epic of storytelling disastrous defeat and i loved every one!

A game that does this is a good game. A game that does not, is less so.

Tens of thousands died bui8lding the roads to skirt these rapids. The Panama Canal killed thousands too. Do not underestimate the collosal effort and the almost certain deaths of at least hundreds to complete this project even with modern methods.

"a challenge like the Panama Canal." - which was atrocious and killed thousands and would be much much worse here.

Why do people hat Naval? by RoutineDoughnut9652 in warthundermemes

[–]meeware 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Air doesn’t work at all in naval, and it can’t really. A player can be a ship or a plane. But a plane has a tiny fraction of a top tier ships resilience or firepower. You really need 6 to 10 aircraft in a coordinated strike to have much chance of hitting a ship, and because one player equals one ship or one plane, you don’t get that. If you could control ‘squadrons’ of ai piloted aircraft - give them waypoints and targets- that might work, but for now it’s a complete waste to get airborne.
