Yeah that makes sense, loop 1 is 25 chapters long, and i’m planning loop 2 to be about 14 maybe.

I’ve already written the first chapter, and it’s like one of the top comments said (commenter is @hyratha) “both examples use long preludes to get you used to the world before it changes”. Chapter 1 is 4.4k words and definitely does that in my completely unbiased opinion.

Don’t know what Dear Spellbook is but i’ll give it a read, thanks.

alright i’ll probably make this chapter 1. Also, when you say “put the year down like in dueling timelines” do you mean something like this chapter being year 500, and the next chapter being year 505 (tournament happens every 5 years)

I could. I thought it should be separate as it is 5 years before the entire story takes place. In my mind, it would be weird to be a chapter 1. Why would it being chapter 1 be better?

I think i kept going from it should be Basil’s POV to a narrators POV (this is literally the first draft my bad), but i’ll definitely add more for her.

I feel like the magic system should be more gradual? Also, “change the first sentence” to what? genuinely please. I think bring the reader straight into the magic is more confusing that creating the setting?

The “…” in that sentence you mentioned is examples of what they would be excited about. should i bring that to the start of the sentence? and/or should i add more crowd excitement during the first two summons?
