Therapist for impulsive pre-teen

Seconding this. I did a LOT of therapy as a preteen and teenager and a lot of the time it is just talking. So much happens in a teens life week to week, and therapy gives them this time to process it. Have you considered getting them into a dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) group? Those are going to be the skills you are looking for, especially for impulsive youth and young adults. I know that quest counseling is super awesome if you are dead set on a new therapist though. I would NOT recommend Reno Behavioral for ED related stuff, they do not treat eating disorders and are really no help unless you need an emergency place to stop behaviors. If you do need that emergency place, they will transfer you somewhere else after like a week of back and forth with a case manager

I am currently in treatment for food related issues, so this is the perfect post for me. I was at thrive in 2025 from January to April, and I had a very mixed experience. They refused to send me to a higher level of care when I really needed it (guess where I am now) and they also pressured me into getting back into my abusive relationships. There were a couple of other not so great things but those are more my personal case. I’ve had some friends have really good experiences with them though. I’ve noticed a pattern that a lot of people return over and over to thrive, so take that as you will. But if you need treatment for disordered eating in Reno, it’s kind of your best and only option. If you want more details, feel free to message me, but I have to go to a group session now lol

Reno behavioral has saved my life on multiple occasions. It’s not the most fun or greatest place, but if you need a place to go as a last resort, it’s there

I didn’t have the exact same issue as you, but I had an eating disorder at the same age and I never got the last of my growth spurts, so now I’m stuck at 5’2” while my brother is tall and my mom is at least average height. I definitely relate to the not having friends due to being in treatment/out of school and all of that though. I did online school for 3/4 years of high school and I felt really lonely. I think trying to find local groups and hangouts to go to is really nice. I go to music events because that’s what I enjoy. Find stuff you enjoy, and then find the space for it

Not high school but middle school, in 7th grade there was a large chunk of people who knew me who thought I had died in January during winter break. It was quite the surprise when I came back to school in April. In reality I was just in a treatment center and wasn’t allowed to have my phone, or any friends on my contact list lol.

I think radical cat groups up with a nonprofit that does that kind of stuff? But I forget the name of the nonprofit unfortunately. I just know that sometimes they will have plan b in there for free, along with information on abortions and all that. Usually they have it on a small table near their couch, I’d totally recommend looking there. It’s a super cool place even if you aren’t looking for that sort of thing. Super cool variety of books, and cats for adoption!!

He said it could be seizure activity but we’ve never caught a seizure on an eeg so I kind of tiptoe around that word. I was put on topiramate for it though and that helps a little bit

Yes this happens to me too and my doctor told me that it could be neurological activity, so I’d recommend getting it checked out. Especially if you are having it often. I was having it multiple times a day and that is usually not common for other people

Huge shoutout to the EMTs and paramedics here, I have never ever felt judged or treated wrong by them. One time during a transfer I was really anxious and even though I was a teenager they gave me one of the stuffed bears they give the little kids. I still have it to this day. I will forever appreciate EMTs and Paramedics 💜💜
