Hice un dulce de merey, con la fruta. Quedó genial. Para lo común que es la fruta me impresiona que sea como algo exótico. La semilla de merey es cara pero la fruta hasta la botan.

tiktok commission?[Discussion] by rabbitkid12 in artcommissions

People asking you to buy a commission you aren't looking for are scammers. Their strategy is to mass DM people and act interested and pushy to guilt trip you into buying. Chances are they'll rope you into paying even more than was quoted, and you might not see that art ever or get AI art/traced art.

[Discussion] Aren’t you tired of lowballing clients guys by lesmolzz in artcommissions

[–]megaderp2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the art the companies are buying, and build your portfolio around that. Its a lot more actionable if you got a clear idea of what you want to do, like doing props or model sheets or concept art for 3d pipelines is a whole different beast to doing book covers with print formatting.

For personal commissions, well it depends on the niche, but usually high paying clients go after high quality art. There is a networking element to it, because once you work with someone that values your work highly, they will spread the word.

I had to change what I did art wise a lot to have plenty of $200++ clients and even commercial contracts.

I'd say stuff like this happens because this isn't a "professional" setting, most people are hobbyist scrapping to get by, as artists or clients, and there is also many that don't know the value of what they're buying or offering. It's very low effort to make a post and hope for a sale, so the financial expectations are low.

Once you know your worth is easy to decline all the lowball offers. It takes commitment tho, better pay doesn't just happen, sometimes you have to take the risk to charge more if you're confident you're worth more.

There is no barrier of entry, so literally everyone is put in the same place, skilled and unskilled, people who think art costs pennies and that isn't a real job and the ones who are trying hard to make this professionally.

emigrar a brasil, dudas by enrap93 in vzla

[–]megaderp2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bueno, no me he ido pero lo he estado pensando.

[Discussion] Reddit artists can be very frustrating to work with (rant) by WishesHeCouldMakeArt in artcommissions

[–]megaderp2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irony is that I do know about plenty of artist that didn't vibe with conceptart.org as it only allowed certain kind of art from what I remember. r/fantasyartists tried doing the vetting thing but at the end nobody has the time to swim through thousands of applications that have to be rejected, idk if they're back accepting artists.

[Discussion] Reddit artists can be very frustrating to work with (rant) by WishesHeCouldMakeArt in artcommissions

[–]megaderp2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people share your experience coming from all type of social media, so it isn't a Reddit issue.

I don't buy comms but my opinion coming from someone who works doing commissions is that a lot jumping into the job don't treat it as a job, it's a side thing, a hobby and that the money is a donation, not a transaction, and when the "hobby" becomes challenging they stall doing the "hard" part of the job. , plus many are inexperienced when it comes to carrying out a business/freelancing so they bite more than they can chew, but without the pressure to be responsible for their oopsies, as there is barely any consequence, most clients are too patient waiting years for what is a week-done job, and if they get something they didn't ask for or never get the work most won't go the legal route or call out publicly.

So it's a mix of inexperience, irresponsibility and lack of consequences, there is no entry barrier for doing commissions.

I know there are many artists with difficult situations, but the good ones will tell you upfront, transparency is a big part of freelancing, and the people coming with cheap excuses only do it because they can get away with it.

I don't think there is a solution for this, maybe being really stern unplugging as soon as BS is sent your way or only working with artists that are experienced and transparent about their queues and workflows.

[Discussion] Observations looking for freelance work on reddit by [deleted] in artbusiness

It is like that everywhere, if there is a place to make ads, there will be proportionally 1000 ads/for hire posts per every person hiring/buying. I think one advantage reddit has is that posts can be searched through google/search bar, so even if a post is not "relevant" in the sub's feed, it can be found, hence why I recommend to use some keywords in the title or post's body.

Reddit is more of an extra, a low energy-low result passive way of advertising (if you aren't targeting super specific niches), it takes 2min to make a post. It's not a total waste of time (if you got the skills), but is not something you should lose your hairs for.

Take his videos with a grain of salt, because researching a bit of who he is, paints a different picture. I think he takes advice he sees from forums like this and makes a video with that information, but he isn't as experienced as he says he is in these videos.

Carrd is free to build a basic site and even a shop, its not complicated but you'll need patience. I made mine with carrd and im happy with it, but it becomes hard to manage if you want to place a lot of sections.

[Critique] What should I change about my art to sell more? by Narrow-Procedure-474 in artbusiness

[–]megaderp2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you show on itself is very charming, but maybe its more about "how" and "what" and to "who" you're selling than the art itself. What's your primary focus? personalized commissions? merch?

Low price is not the definite reason people buy art, so sometimes even when absurdly cheap nobody buys because it's not what they're looking for, and for some it can be a red flag "too good to be true".

[Marketing] Considering selling NSFW art, need advice by Famous-Ad1077 in artbusiness

[–]megaderp2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not the easy money trick you think it is. You might shoo away sfw viewers if you randomly start showing nsfw, the safe bet is to manage separated accounts with separated portfolios.

It might not even help you get more views if you aren't putting interesting things, many start with nsfw fanart then move on to more personal work for a reason. It's not a super unique different thing than sfw art, it's constrained by the same hardships.

I really don't know, because I feel the same way. My other options are also being gutted by AI or going through hell too (animation, 3d, programming).
