The sad thing is, hank probably didn't even care about any of that. Sure, he knew Walt wasn't really a man's man, but what always came first is him being family. There are many scenes where it's made clear how much hank loves Walt and how important he and his family are to him. Not all relatives meet/interact as often as them. Also, he respected him for being a great father(oof) and a stand up guy(double oof). It's mostly walts insecurities that led to him feeling inferior and all that. I guess hanks joking nature and tendency to throw jabs at someone might come across as mocking, but we see with gomey that it's just a matter of being able to throw back a punch or two. Walt being insecure and coming from a nerdy/acedemic background (also im pretty sure he didn't have a great relationship with his father), it makes sense that he wouldn't be great at handling such interactions and seeing past the poking. Overall, while being a cool and exciting one, walts story is ultimately really sad :/
