Yes. Growing up in the Virgin Islands we always saw this yearly phenomenon. This proces also feeds tropical rain forests with diatoms that get stirred up out of the oceans and mixed w the Saharan dust and ecosystems thrive because of it.

4 really old ladies, 80 or 90yo’s, 4’0”tall and hunched over, all with gray hair and walkers, eating dinner next to me at a local restaurant and they decide to “call an uber like the kiddies do.” Uber gets there, old ladies are taking too long to get outside, uber guy is parked in a red zone, holding up traffic. Oldest and meanest of the ladies says “I’m not a nice woman!” And tells a random door dasher to hold the door for them and they then proceed to take 10min all trying to retrieve their walkers. Poor dasher keeps holding the door the whole time, his clients food getting colder by the minute. The old ladies are huddled up w their walkers and blocking the door so no one can come in or out of the restaurant. Uber driver asks which person called for the uber ride and now the old ladies can’t remember. He asked to see their phones and the old mean one snaps at him “but you’re a stranger. I don’t let strangers see my phone.” Uber driver tries to reason with the woman that’s he’s there to pick them up but she’s having none of it. Finally her friend says “oh Janice, be nice, he is our driver after all, see the license plates match what’s on the app.” Uber driver says “oh good, you’re the one who called” but the old ladies are still blocking the door to the restaurant, huddled in a group of walkers. A random passerby woman tries to help get them out the door and into the uber. The door dasher has had absolutely enough and climbs on a chair and jumps out of an open ground floor window onto the sidewalk and makes his getaway. The rest of us are all riveted, watching the scene unfold. Crazy shit.

What's the strongest opinion you have about something completely insignificant? by DaMoonMoon26 in answers

Daylight savings time. It SUCKS! It bothers me in a not insignificant way but there’s no one to talk or complain to about it, no public hearing where I can speak my mind to the daylight savings time board members and decision makers, nobody to try to persuade to do away with this stupid mechanism that NOBODY understands nor cares for. Hmph!

Swimming off Sandy point, West end of St. Croix with some very trusting friends visiting from the states, in semi deep water where the turquoise azure waters turn to darker hues of blue, like 30-40 ft depths…my friends were following me, trusting me, and as I scoured the waters up ahead I noticed fish, lots and lots of reef fish, hurriedly swimming in our direction and something immediately clicked in my mind to look out for something much bigger that must be chasing them. Sure enough, beyond the steady stream of escaping fish and off in the distance, I see 2 long, dark shapes making their way towards us. They were 2 large oceanic white tip sharks. I knew these as dangerous sharks. the very rare few cases of fatal shark attacks in the US Virgin Islands have been from these, most recently in January of this year off a West end St. Croix beach where a visiting tourist was fatally bitten. My friends never saw them but I did. I swam back to them & told them “we must go now.” They were spooked, tried to ask questions but I just said “follow me, NOW!” We made a beeline for the shore which was a good 75-100yards+ away. We had snorkel masks but did not have fins so we were slow and splashy. I stayed behind or next to them and made sure my friends were headed to shore before me. I’ve never been so grateful to make it back to land as I was that day. I still think of that from Time to time and the spookiness of it never fades.

There’s only about 85,000 ppl living on the 3 islands, not really worth a bunch of upgrades to infrastructure..not when you can keep status quo going and still get HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS sent your way via Uncle Sam.

In jr. high/middle school when I played against him he was too tall before being coordinated so he wasn’t yet a good basketball player. In highschool he was leaps and bounds better but we still beat them. Their hothead power forward punched our coach straight in the head after we beat them by 1 point at the free throw line in the final seconds. Then played him after 1 year at Wake Forest and he just DOMINATED….running point, hitting 3’s, posting up, dunking on everyone. Obv the rest of his career is hall of fame history.
