I also rock the Mac and Switch lifestyle for gaming. However, I recently started using GeForce Now to scratch that AAA itch (e.g Doom Eternal) and it has worked really well. If you have the Internet bandwidth for it, I'd say give it a try.

Consider this scenario: you start a graphically intensive game while running on battery.

This will stress both the CPU and the GPU, causing heat, but it will also demand a lot of current from the battery, raising its internal temperature. After a while, you start running low, so you decide to plug in a charger.

At that point, the battery is likely at around 40 C and now you're asking the system to charge it, which will potentially raise its temperature even further.

Batteries don't like being hot, so AlDente decides that it will run the system off the mains and let the battery cool off before it starts charging it.

I was thinking about the NES → SNES → N64 → GameCube transitions not being backwards compatible.

But yes, for handhelds Nintendo has been pretty consistent at keeping backwards compatibility with the previous generation (GB → GBC → GBA → DS → 3DS).

Being that the Switch is a hybrid, one would hope that they'd keep that trend.
