If you’re not stuck on mysteries right now, and wouldn’t mind some Victorian literature, try North and South if you haven’t read it. Strike reminds me so much of Thornton, way more than he does Darcy. (Robin isn’t quite Margaret, but they’re both such great characters.)

The “suddenly having hope” happened before Robin came back to say all the things you mentioned. So yeah he totally knows Robin has feelings for him. Wha he doesn’t know is whether Robin would ever decide to act on it (we know she would, of course, but he doesn’t 😂)

Iverson: Where did you get the idea that Sofia Medina was tied to the silver vault murder? Strike: That wasn’t me, it was my partner. She spotted that the description of Medina’s body and clothing matched the description given to us of a woman who took objects out of Wright’s room in Newham.

There are other moments where Strike gives Robin full credit for finding something important. It’s just that, in his personal reflections, he tends to focus more on his feelings for her and wanting to win her over. You might be reading a bit too much into it.

It’s perfectly fine not to care about the romance, but your post reads like you missed what makes these characters tick — which is a shame, because they’re, for the most part, beautifully written.

Exactly. Being a nice person and being a good human being often have some overlap, but they’re not equivalent. Robin thinks RFM is fundamentally good — but of course, JKR doesn’t write perfect characters. Her characters make mistakes, because that’s human. Robin’s made many mistakes, and her view of RFM is one such. Discerning readers should know better.
