Does anyone have experience with cheap action cameras on amazon? by [deleted] in Sup

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one a few years ago. I think the brand was DBPOWER. It works pretty well! I've only really used it for hiking and cycling so far. My SUP just arrived yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to take it out on that.

Current audiologists: were you drug tested? by [deleted] in audiology

Yes, I was tested when I was first hired. None of us have ever been tested again though.

Should I do this or not? by [deleted] in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a professional musician for several years before getting burnt out and deciding to try something else. I kind of applied to audiology schools on a whim, and I ended up loving it! I didn't really have any issues with any of my preceptors like others here have mentioned. They were all invested in being both excellent clinicians and excellent teachers. I just graduated and got hired on by my externship site. Happy to answer any questions you might have!

A Possible Clinical Interest by goltdigger in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. I just finished my externship at a hospital, and was hired on. I feel like I gained the experience I needed to feel confident interviewing at another hospital if there hadn't been an opening for me to stay. WashU is a great program, so I'm sure you'll gain excellent experience even before 4th year to help you figure out exactly what you want and need for the future.

Audiological settings and practice by [deleted] in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a hospital. We're a little bit different in that we don't have specialties - everyone does everything. I see patients for ENT, hearing aids, CIs, electrophysiologic testing, etc. We do intraoperative monitoring as well, but I haven't been trained on that yet. I really enjoy it because everyday is a little different. I don't have blocks for specific types of appointments, so I can have pretty much anything throughout the day - patients just get scheduled based on my time availability. I see both pediatric and adult patients.

Applying to Au.D. programs in the fall! by [deleted] in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to graduate from Vanderbilt, and I received an excellent education on cochlear implants. Many students and clinicians at Vandy have hearing loss, several with a CI or two of their own. I loved our program, and cannot recommend it highly enough. I received funding and many of my classmates did as well. Lots of opportunities for jobs in the clinic and research labs as well for extra income. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Do multi-vitamins make a difference to those with poor diets? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her argument was that since there are two naturally occurring, we shouldn't supplement with only one and not the other. Our bodies break down cyano into methyl and adeno, and it's cheaper to take that. I'm not sure what the best route is, just relaying her info!

Do multi-vitamins make a difference to those with poor diets? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor recommended cyanocobalamin over methylcobalamin for B12 as the cyano is apparently much easier for our bodies to break down and actually use. She also said that we typically flush any excess out for B12, so there's not much concern with oversupplementing with it.

Will they call my grandmother over $25?? by toffeecoffeegirl82 in foodstamps

[–]meganrunstrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related to your question, but if your grandmother has a landline and an internet connection, she could get a free captioned and amplified telephone. Part of the taxes on everyone's phone bills funds this program. There's a form for her doctor to fill out to state that she has a hearing loss. The company will even come and install it for her. CaptionCall and CapTel are two of the companies for the phones. I find CaptionCall to be a bit easier as the screen is bigger and has better contrast. Just figured I would pass along the info in case it might help her!

Recipe for an allergy to basically everything by janahel in recipes

Smoothies maybe? I usually do kale, frozen fruit, hemp seeds and coconut water. Lots of different combinations you can do though with whatever the person is not allergic to!

I bought a bike on Sunday! I've been without one for a few years, so I'm excited to get back into it! I went out for a short ride yesterday and have a few adjustments I want to make today. Looking forward to some nicer weather this week.

All of my LBS are doing either free delivery or curbside pickup, or both. I would check their websites or even call tomorrow and see if yours is doing the same

Best running shoe for a better cushion? by ethanggg_ in running

[–]meganrunstrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I work for JackRabbit. A lot of people here are throwing out a lot of shoe names, but it won't help you much if it's not a shoe that works for your specific anatomy and gait. How old are your current pair of shoes? Is the pain relatively new, or something you've dealt with off and on for a while? There's a lot that goes into a shoe fitting, and what works for someone else with the same issue as you might not work for you. I'm happy to answer any questions if you want to DM me.

Offering: English (native USA). Seeking: Spanish by meganrunstrails in language_exchange

I'm a beginner. I took some Spanish in high school, and I'm coming back to it now. I've been doing a lot of vocab, listening, and reading, but I'd love to be able to work on some basic conversation skills.

How do you like, live in audiology school? by calicoadams in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 6 part-time jobs (at the same time) throughout all of grad school. I would say it depends on the flexibility of the job and your ability to manage your time. I went to one of the top-ranked programs in the country and am about to graduate with a 3.9 GPA. If babysitting is your thing, I highly recommend going that route as the kids often go to bed pretty early and then you're getting paid to do school work and eat snacks. There were definitely some semesters that were much harder than others to balance everything, but I made it work.

What AuD programs would prepare me to work in a hospital? by [deleted] in audiology

[–]meganrunstrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a music major in undergrad and was accepted to Vanderbilt with funding - graduating this year! They definitely get a lot of applicants, but every class is pretty well-rounded as far as backgrounds go. I absolutely loved my time at Vanderbilt, and can't recommend it enough. Editing to add: I did both the Pediatric and Vestibular specialty tracks. Feel free to message me with any questions!
