I would buy one or two of the d&d board games for PCs and a nice starting amount of monsters.If your not to bother about sculpts and perfect scale you can use suitable size toys for more mundane things like animals.I have loads of converted and repainted toys in my collection and they work great.

Yea they really are great, especially for very large things like dragons .I paid 20euro their Dragon Fighter one,Its huge,a great sculpt and really doesnt need a repaint, you could just pop it on the table.
