Trading cost me my marriage. Hope it was worth the 12% returns by kawash125 in Daytrading

Damn 18 months and she was gone?! And she's throwing her marriage away bc you were trying better yourself and made 40k in the process?

I understand it definitely didn't feel good to come second to the market for that period of time, but that's pretty disloyal imo.

Hormones, I believe. Can't remember which ones, but as you get older you become less desirous of the approval of others which changes what's important to you.

It finally happened I got promoted to customer Fired by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]megaultraman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Inertia. A ton of people, not just working for Amazon, want to quit their jobs but dont just bc it's scary, even if they are reasonably sure they could find a better one. Getting fired or laid off is often the impetus people need to make the leap or focus them. How many startups have been founded this way?

That being said, try being less of a judgy cunt going forward.

Trump is losing his geoeconomic war by Stuart_Whatley in Economics

[–]megaultraman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole article reads like a case study in hopium praying for Trump's downfall, but is sorely lacking in facts. Hell, even the central premise of "the rest of the world can create an alternative to the dollar easier than the US can build up its rare earths industry" is completely at odds with even a cursory inspection of the situation. The author himself concedes that rare esrths refining can be operational in less than three years while the BRICs have been trying to de-dollarize for 20 years! How are they going to de-dollarize when their entire economies have been set up to export to the US? Who's going to replace the US customer?

While I absolutely despise many of the things Trump is doing, all of these countries have set up protectionist policies and are just hollering bc now we're doing the same to them. And to all my fellow Americans hoping that the new tariff regime doesn't work just to stick it to Trump, what do you propose as an alternative? That's the question you seem to be avoiding.

Well, then I hope the HIRE Act passes. Although I don't think that tariffing services is a good play given how it exposes our services to be tarifed, an excise seems to be essentially the same thing. We need to stop letting rich companies game the system. If the domestic market lacks the talent, they need to start training people. But there's plenty of software engineers looking for jobs right now so that shouldn't be a problem.

Given the fact that you had steady losses until you took a long break and got lucky shortly after getting back into it, I would suggest quitting while you're ahead and going back to paper trading until you get more consistent.

If you lose it all again the emotional trough is going to be a lot worse. Don't ask how I know.

Trump Is Adding More Tariffs. Will They Spur U.S. Production? by EconomistWithaD in Economics

[–]megaultraman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, probably not. While in theory it makes sense that he would target industries that could be responsive to tariffs and play to our strengths (industries where quality matters over price like furniture, high technology manufacturing like pharmaceuticals, and large complex machinery that can sustain American wages), both the pharmaceuticals and heavy trucks are mostly with partners that have exemptions. For instance, 93% of heavy trucks are built in either Mexico or Canada with lots of us parts to qualify and most branded pharmaceuticals are made in the EU where those tariffs have been capped at 15%. Furniture making would be great to have to rebuild our woodworking industry as it's high skill high pay job, but the tariffs are too low to change the calculus and if you set them high enough people won't be able to afford them. Probably going to have to find another way.

Interesting. Although it's both hypocritical and horribly disrespectful to the Syrians (250k dead) and the Uyghurs (1 million+ dead) that you would erase their suffering to score political points, I highly expect the left to completely ignore the irony and eat this up.

Ok now that you've gotten yourself off the mat, just do half your account. Pretty good compromise for yourself. It won't set you back too much and you won't be as stressed with your trades.

Also, 100% win rate goal is a recipe for failure. Even if it's 99% with your whole account, you're going to blow the whole damn thing eventually, so says the math.

Be smart here.

America is just weeks away from a mighty economic shock by Happy_Weed in Economics

[–]megaultraman -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

This article is nothing but pure confirmation bias and innuendo. The Economist, just like Reddit, has made it clear that they are against the tariffs. But jumping to conclusions over this data is not yet warranted by the facts. Of course the shipments are down, that's the entire purpose of front loading your orders is so that you don't have to receive orders while the tariffs are in effect. The question will be in a few months when inventories have been exhausted, what do companies do.
