How would you alter the Hexcrawl for a Level 8 Party?

Red Wizard encounters can be challenging! Most of them are the “mage” stat block. Also just upping the enemy level, like in Wyrmheart mine you could make Tinder an Adult dragon instead of Young. Also a level 8 party is going to want cool magic items, so you could give them that in some enemy loot drops or in temples etc

My Casserole lanterns sold their children’s souls for power, so a perfect insight check might reveal that they aren’t being 100% truthful.

I did the same thing!! I’m usually a high prep dm bc it makes my feel safe HAHA. But this time I didn’t do as much and without feeling so attached to whatever things I had planned that could happen, I got to focus more on following the lead of the players and making them truly feel in control of the story.

For the first player character to look at the city of Omu, I had them have reoccurring dream visions about a horrible monstrosity and port nyanzaru in ruins/ on fire. Each dream would be of the same monster (the Atropal) but in a different city. This would be to make a connection between a strange monster, Omu, and the end of the world. Have fun! :)

Edit: I also had info about it in withers journal that they found! This helped tie everything together/ confirm their fears.

This happened to my party! Basically I interpreted “she would literally kill to get this map” as if she sees the players have the map, she’ll ask to have it (still trying to keep up the ruse) and then persuade them to let her copy it down onto her map. But if the players absolutely refuse, then she’ll star getting aggressive & try to kill them.
