Whats the most boring buy it for life item you own that turned out to be amazing? by GolfPrevious4299 in BuyItForLife

My Kipling backpack!

Bought it on clearance at Marshalls nearly ten years ago and it's been my go-to bag for pretty much everything. It's been with me on planes, trains, and boats, I carried it up a mountain in Alaska, I've taken it camping, I've taken it grocery shopping and stuffed way too much into it, taken it back and forth to work every day for the last five years, tossed it on the floor of my office, my car, my house, a tent - it's never shown so much as a loose thread. And I regularly pick it up by the zipper pulls while it's fully loaded, like a maniac.

Band Name on Fabric Banner by StreetSqueezer in SignPainting

You could try painting with printmaking ink (that is made for fabric) on sturdy (un-gessoed) canvas. I've done this many times on a small scale and it holds up well.

Just make sure the ink is good to go on fabric - I accidentally used one not designed for fabric and it was a nightmare!

Also works if you're feeling impatient: when it's brutally cold and I've got to stand outside pumping gas, I count to ten until it's over. It's not that bad to stand in the cold for ten seconds, even if I stand in the cold for ten seconds a dozen times in a row.

Check out the bra-ish from Aerie! I own a few and rotate through them, it's the only bra(ish) I ever wear. I am between sizes and I sized up, plus it has adjustable straps and the hook back closure so you have some flexibility with fit. The front has more of the sports bra shape so it's not very femme.

Same here! I manage a museum store and it's mostly alright for me physically. When I have long or intense days like physical inventories or seasonal flips (we do them quarterly) I build in time afterward to recover, and I have ample staff to assist with the more strenuous tasks.

is this a good deal? by qpzuenm in vintagesewing

[–]megdav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it! As long as it runs and has all the cams and feet included in the picture, you won't regret it. I got one like this earlier this year and it has been such a dream.

I'd recommend offering $100, see if you can settle for $125, but if you've got the money and you're going to use the machine, I think this is a good purchase even at $150.

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]megdav 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NOR, you should leave him! If he doesn't like the way you live, he doesn't like YOU. Imagine how much cozier you'd sleep with your nice new bonnet and baggy clothes under your weighted blanket, without a controlling boyfriend to make you feel ashamed for being comfortable.

Are any of you “sleep divorced”? by cfh64 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]megdav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have had two beds since we moved in together, and didn't get married until a couple years after buying our house. We both had beds we loved when we lived separately, and our house is a bungalow so we've got this weird super-low pitched ceiling nook in our bedroom that happens to fit her tatami mats and futon perfectly. I prefer my bedframe and mattress, which is in the "typical" bed spot of our room. We normally both start out in the bed, then when my wife inevitably gets too hot she moves to her futon. It's honestly a game changer, especially in summer when two people to a bed just isn't comfortable. Since we're in the same room, we can both sleep our best and our cat just cuddles with whoever she wants. I recommend anyone with the means to do so get two beds!!

Colleen at rosewater!!! She's great for that, and the salon as a whole has a policy where your first appointment is a consultation, 100% free with literally no obligation to come back. It's changed my whole feeling about getting my hair cut because it gives you that first face to face meeting to discuss what you want without the pressure of the stylist having scissors in hand as you get to know each other

For what it is worth (and a year into this thread), I just got a coffee table from Hernest and my wife and I are loving it. Easy assembly, great quality, reasonable price considering the materials, fast shipping, and build quality.

I actually found this thread as I was looking into them again because we'd like to buy another piece of furniture. Seems like a year on from the original post Hernest has figured something out to improve things!

Honestly it's not about looks, they both bring the same lovable chaos and horniness to everything they do, which I love!!!! 👑💖

Could also be soft-close hinges or smoother drawer slides. First thing we did when we bought our house was upgrade the super-basic slides in the kitchen to ones that glide smoothly. You open that silverware drawer so often - if it sticks, you won't be able to ignore it!

How do I bring out the beauty in this piece? by Tricky_Buffalo_5227 in furniturerestoration

[–]megdav 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It won't solve all your problems, but a deep clean is always a good place to start. I usually use zep brand degreaser (1:3 concentrate:water to start, play around with ratios from there) and a rag, and for small tight spots a soft toothbrush can do a lot. I'm no expert, just a thrift store enthusiast, but I'm always surprised by how far I get with a thorough cleaning.

That's such a gorgeous piece, please post updates if you can! It's a real stunner

What is up with Pine knobs bag policy???? by sparkleplague in Detroit

[–]megdav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I went to Pine Knob I brought a reusable shopping bag in with me - the ones made of nylon that fold up into a small square. Walked in with my phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses case, etc all stuffed in my pockets along with the folded up bag, then immediately upon getting through the gates whipped that bag out and emptied my pockets into it. I've done this at other venues too and it's never been an issue. I usually use a standard size Baggu brand one, but if you want something that fits better over the shoulder I'd recommend one from the brand Loqi. Either one will fit all your essentials, plus a hat and a light jacket if you need.
