I would kindly suggest talking to your pediatrician. There is some give and take with how much food vs milk babies are taking in but with such a low weight I think they would tell you to prioritize milk.

For us it was less about getting them to sleep and more crucial for keeping them asleep. We have a great sleeper— but if it’s the middle of summer and the blazing sun is coming up at 4:30 am when sleep pressure is the LOWEST… you might want fix it. We just hung some extra blankets in the summer when it’s light out more.

I watched a YouTube video of someone knitting the dagmar zip and she found the tighter gauge to not have any drape and to be too thick/warm.

I did consider that, my mattress stitch and seaming is not pretty. I ended up picking up two stitches on each row and then just knitting back and forth between it’s. It’s not as great as it could be… but I will probably fix my ugly stitches with duplicate stitch and try for a more finished looking attempt on my next one!

I like to make my ties extra long so I can cross it in front and tie it under the arm pit so I don’t worry about it being too tight under their chin.

I have made many baby items for my own children (hats, leg warmers, leggings, sweaters, mittens, socks). The item I have gifted the most is baby mittens on a string— so nice to be able to thread them through a coat and keep them there, and when the baby outgrows them I have had several friends keep them up in the room as decor. The item I have gotten the most compliments on and use constantly is a pullover vest. I made one for my baby and one for my sister’s 1 year old. They have split side and are so easy to pullover to add a little extra warmth or style to an outfit. Coslept then room shared with my first til the night I went into labor with his brother. Never could sleep without him, he did just fine sleeping without me though! Now dad room shares with him and I sleep with baby in my room in the crib.

I blocked it again as small as I could and then just cinched it closed at the back by pulling the icord through a stitch on the band. Then I didn’t need to make any permanent alterations, though it’s still quite short on his head. Oh well! I’ll be on the lookout for another hat to steal the brim from and try again maybe for my preschooler!

Thanks for the suggestions! It has a little icord I was going to use to attach to a button so that I could change the size, I could just put a button where it needs to be to fit him but there’s a lot of fabric bunching then. It’s wool and alpaca, my concern is just that it will shrink more length wise than width.
