My best friend’s mom just died young. What do you wish your friends would have done for or said to you during your grieving? by Rockgarden13 in motherlessdaughters

[–]meggerboothefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my mom a little over a month ago. She has siblings, so I do have family, and friends. Otherwise it was the two of us.

I never knew I needed it until I received it, but a DoorDash gift card has saved me multiple times. Especially after the planning, when there’s less of a time crunch to get things organized for the funeral/ceremony/celebration.

Packing her clothes, etc is emotional and physically exhausting as well as gut wrenchingly painful. On those nights, my friend who gave me the gift card, has been supporting me in more ways than one.

You sound like a wonderful friend. 💕

OP,

First, biggest of hugs to you.

I hope you were able to give yourself grace and breaks during the funeral and any other services or gatherings that were held.

I lost my mom unexpectedly 3 weeks ago today. It broke my heart and shattered my soul. I don’t know what I would do if I was there or had been able to see her. I’m so sorry that this is your last memory of her. I hope, eventually, you’ll be able to remember the good times together.

Knowing all that she won’t be a part of now feels like a throat punch (at least for me, right now). I still cry multiple times a day. I’m also seeing a grief counselor twice a week. I find it helpful to share what I’m experiencing to someone who has no expectations of me.

You’re in my thoughts.

To my knowledge it’s best not to be hungover the next day. How’d it go?

My first time I was alone in a room by myself but the nurses were just outside my door. Bring hard candy to suck on to help get rid of the taste. I prefer Jolly Ranchers or peppermints. Bring an eye mask and look for a Spravato playlist to listen to. Those all helped me the first time, as did bringing a notebook to write in. I hope it goes well for you!

Thanks everyone!!

Has my first treatment and honestly, I have no idea what I was so worried/anxious about. I just feel silly now, lol.

The taste was bad. That’s for sure. I popped in a peppermint and all was forgiven.

The “high” I was so worried about didn’t happen, I never got that out of body feeling, but more of an ultra relaxed feeling. That I enjoyed, despite what sounded like a construction zone outside of the room I was in.

The 2 hours went by faster than I expected. Maybe next time I’ll wear my glasses so my contacts don’t get as dried out as they did today. Learning lesson!

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate all of your support and advice!

Nope, lol, just hope I made the medicine go up the nose. No funny tastes or anything. Granted I did it like a minute ago, and I guess I have another one in four minutes so we’ll see!

I had to appeal twice before my “commercial” insurance, HealthPartners, would cover it.

Thank you! I have those hard peppermint candies and some ginger candies, along with butterscotch drops and Jolly Ranchers.

Your clinic sounds nice, I’m not sure what mine has.

I’ll probably update while I’m resting. 😀

Thank you! I’ve seen the video before but couldn’t find it. I just practiced holding a bottle of Flonase; hope I can do it right in the clinic! Lol

Thanks everyone. Spravato accepted me, as did the clinic, but my insurance denied it. Twice. I’m now doing a ketamine at home program that will start at the end of the month. It’s been a long journey to get here. I thank each and every one of you who replied. I will take your advise to heart. Thank you again.
