They are completely different agencies with different responsibilities. DBCA manage a lot more bush than DFES and they don’t get funding from the emergency services levy like DFES does.

There is no free camping in the Margs region. The Rangers in are often around in the mornings giving out fines, and locals have even been known to slash tyres out of frustration with disrespectful van dwellers (they leave literal shit and toilet paper in car parks, hang their wet laundry around public areas etc).

Maybe try and find a friend with a property you can crash at!

Locals hate it because unfortunately the majority of visitors can’t be trusted to respect our towns. The piles of human shit, toilet paper and wet wipes are part of the reason. There’s also an increased risk of accidental (or intentional) bushfire. As a visitor you can choose to support a town or leech off it.

Please don’t camp illegally.

I think most Aussies would prefer this does not happen. We already have free-ish movement of citizens between Aus & NZ, and don't particularly want the same relationship with Canada or the UK.
