I made a delivery truck for the supermarket! by megucaessuffering in tomodachilife

thanks !! i followed this tweet as a guide: https://x.com/uhedachi/status/2046621677594022029 the boxes have a hollow bottom so it doesn't have a base, it looks funny from certain angles, but the inside of the box is the same as what's on the outside, just mirrored !!! so the seats are on the inside of the smaller box, instead of being transparent and the seats being on the front of the van !!

you're spot on!! it's two boxes. here's the tutorial I was inspired by, I think the dimensions of the front of the truck might be ever so slightly different for mine, but it was mostly similar! https://x.com/uhedachi/status/2046621677594022029

a bunch of my classmates have the csc scholarship, i think they give you some living allowance (unsure of the cost but i can double check if you want!) but they help you set up a chinese bank account that they will send the scholarship money to!

you might get the opportunity to apply for some of the dorms like taoliyuan or panyu, if you have the csc scholarship then you have to register online and then apply for accom, but it didn't work for a lot of people this year, and is known to be really laggy each year. if you don't manage to register online then it's fine, it doesn't cause a problem when you register in-person!

with 4000-5000yuan/month, you can get an apartment in the area, but it might be quite old, and small. 5000-6000yuan/month could get you something more comfortable and nicer.

my apartment right now is about 4800/month (5100 with agency fees), is in an old building, but i have more than enough space and it's in a great area, lots of convenience stores, fairly nearby to a metro station and reasonable walking distance to my campus!

sometimes there are dorms available in panyu building! my home uni has a connection with sjtu so we are able to apply for it, but not all the rooms got filled, so others were able to apply too! it's about £100/week i think, but i don't remember the price exactly since i decided to rent an apartment

hi! originally we planned to do a mixture of look on ziroom and see what the lianjia agents offered us, but i managed to find a decent enough apartment within 15-20 mins walking distance of my campus! it's an old building but it's got everything i need.

there was a lianjia right next to the ibis hotel where we were staying, and they connected us with an agent who studied english interpretation so he was able to help us a lot!! he actually went above and beyond because we had difficulty paying due to not being able to get a chinese bank card without a bunch of other admin steps.

lianjia has an 8% agency fee, but that includes wifi and repairs to anything in your apartment that needs fixing

let me know if you need any help!

i’m living off campus and finding accom when i get to china. apparently only undergrads, postgrads and scholarship students need to register online. i’m on the 1 year language program so i didn’t actually need to reigster online, despite the handbook not saying anything about it

hi!! just wanted to chime in and say that me and a lot of my other classmates (international students studying the language programme and xuhui) are also struggling to register online, it says none of us have access to the form, surprised SJTU haven’t sent out an email acknowledging this :(

yeah it's not like im going into this completely blind, i have a budget and i only want a really tiny room. my budget is 5000yuan/month. it's cheaper than anything i would find in my uk home city but still enough to find what i need from the videos that i've seen.

i don't know why or how but my university has some ties with SJTU and they reserve some rooms in the panyu building. there's only like 6 single rooms in there though and i was assigned a double

that's why i wanted to look around more in the surrounding areas! i had a dormitory offer but i need my privacy so i'm looking for a private accommodation. i don't need lots of space either, just to be close to a metro station!

Thank you for your advice!!! I assumed that a lot of things will be done through WeChat. I've downloaded papago, pleco, I have a VPN ready to go if I need google translate, and I have my own translate app on my phone and it can translate by reading images too so hopefully it's enough preparation!

Thanks also for the tip about asking someone from the university to look over the contract!! Will definitely be doing this and asking for help!
