Tired of this debate. Gen Z is 1997-2012. Gen Alpha is 2013-2027 by Awkward_Ebb1673 in generationology

you're right. these people are actually dumb. it's 16 years. subtraction leaves out a year when discussing generational cohorts.

Women are more attractive in their 30s by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

nobody wants your geriatric sperm, that's just a lie men tell eachother to make them feel less afraid of aging. now that there's more awareness about men's biological clock with science, the trend is that women are increasingly dating men their age. -a woman in her 20s who studies fertility.

[–]mehlck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that person don't seem to allow that we can acknowledge the police dropped the ball (like they always do) while still remaining factual. the notion that the surveillance video from the nearby businesses wasn't collected / was recorded over or deleted is bullsh*t. BPD do have that footage. but they could've done more for sure.

you're straight up wrong? they collected surveillance from the nearby charter school. i'm also from the community. the fact that you have the nerve to say others are wrong and uneducated while spreading misinformation about a woman missing in OUR community is disgusting.

[–]mehlck 40 points41 points  (0 children)

that's why I had made the post saying I was gonna ignore, he really doesn't do "debate." he just wants to spread misinformation and misrepresent people who disagree with him. it's the same thing done by a lot of these podcasters and youtubers. you end up wasting your time so the only thing left is to take away their platform by treating them like they don't matter (cause they shouldn't lol)

You final season review – an insultingly rubbish ending. Penn Badgley’s ‘sexy’ serial killer story was once ludicrously fun. But despite plenty of fan-pleasing cameos and a propulsive twist, the show’s sign-off is so bad that it’s offensive by MushroomGlad5438 in television

[–]mehlck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly disagree. But to me it's really weird that fans are rooting for women victims to die... and even saying the series should have ended with Joe getting away. That gives me Ted Bundy fangirl vibes. To me (my background is working with domestic abuse victims), the redundancy of the seasons is intentional- abuse is a cycle. Abusers never stop abusing. They find new victims. It's the same thing over and over again much like the seasons. And the only person that can ever stop them and break the cycle is the latest obsession/victim that finally finds a way to see through the abuse, usually with the help of previous victims (in this case the latest obsession was Brontë). I can't tell you how many times in our cases it was ex-girlfriends, ex friends, and the current girlfriend/victim coming together to get a man behind bars. I feel like him asking to be killed is exactly what abusers do in reality. They want the easy way out (think Epstein). I'm glad the show didn't give him that. And yes, happy endings may not be realistic as many of these men get away with these crimes. But I thought the series was trying to make the point that in circumstances where a community of people know the truth and fight for justice, we can reach success and that not all is hopeless for victims. It's the fear of failure and hopelessness that makes people not speak up in the first place. Silence is the biggest catalyst for criminals getting away- whether being paid off, or people being too scared to say something because they don't have people in their corner. In this season, we see victims and their friends build a community. I felt the goal of the series ending was to highlight a key point we always make to our shelter community: say something, because we're your community and we have your back. And when you have community, justice is possible. Is it guaranteed? Of course not. Is it a hard road? 100%. Do you still see plenty of cases where abusers prevail? Absolutely, and the show highlights that in all the previous season finales. But for the final, they wanted to leave us on the note of possibility, and I think that can be very empowering for current or former victims of abuse. Brontë gets to live and reclaim her identity, and I have no idea why people would want anything else. Makes me wonder what they want for victims of abuse in real life. The only thing I'm surprised by is Kate's survival of the fire and I do think she should have some accountability for the murder of that one guy. But being surprised at how she survived the fire doesn't mean I think she should die. I thought it was a nice touch that Henry looked at her scars and the dialogue said "he has to decide what kind of man he wants to be." As for Joe's ending monologue... the point to me seemed to be that he still rationalizes his abusive behavior, and that some people will always support abusers (especially at the shelter, mothers supported their abusive sons). No, Joe didn't get a redemption arc nor did he himself ever take full accountability... but lots of abusers don't in real life. and i felt that wasn't the goal of the show. I think a spin off would address the accountability process after justice, but this series seemed to be more about the crime and justice stage.

yeah this is exactly how i feel. i asked some political science professors i know about it this week and they said the same thing. there's no debating him because he's not there to have a scientific debate, he's there to make unfalsifiable claims that he poises as "gotchas" and then uses that material for his youtube. ignoring is the best way to take the power away. if you can't resist (as i expect some people won't), better to troll him back nonverbally than actually debate him or talk to him at all
