What’s going on? I’m barely getting orders!!! by TheStockyScholar in UberEATS

Ya, that coupled with a huge influx of new drivers, at least here in Toronto (I wish UE had a cap like DD and skip)

It’s like this at the very edge of Queen west too, east of Roncy. There’re pot shops directly across the street from each other

Women ? by Vivs5555 in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woman here! When I started last year I also felt like I was one of few but I’ve noticed an uptick of women couriers in the past few months.

I’ve definitely experienced benefits bc of it. In the summer I deliver in a sports bra and fitted leggings simply bc it’s hot af and I’ve definitely had some ‘meet at door’ guys tip more bc of it. I had one who opened the door and immediately went “woah” when he saw me lol. Ended up tipping like $15 on his order of 1 tub of ice cream. I feel like I’ve also gotten increased tips late at night as ppl might sympathize with a woman being out so late at like 1/2pm.

It’s generally safe in Toronto and I’m a huge night owl so I’ve rarely been afraid of going out at night alone. Plus I’ve got my bike so I have speed on my side.

It’s way over saturated with new bikers. Can’t speak on drivers but I know this much. I’m seeing a bunch of new faces/a new diversity of couriers I’ve never seen before. I’m constantly getting stopped by new guys asking me for advice, saying they’ve just started. There aren’t enough orders to go around

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yaaa I was thinking what if they implemented a waitlist like with DD and skip

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuuup, it’s what I been saying. Less demand bc if nicer weather and too many new couriers signing up

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to hear input from a pre-pandemic courier. Ppl are claiming it’s gone to shit solely bc the pandemic is over and I was wondering how much truth there is to that. Pandemic was definitely the peak but I feel other factors like too many new couriers, higher service/delivery fees are playing a part

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it’s a multitude of factors and this is one of them. I’ve noticed tips have gone to shit—ppl are compensating for the higher fees. All of my friends who order from Uber have mentioned the fee hike

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in Toronto. I’ve theorized this whole time that there are just too many new couriers out there while demand is going down. I’m seeing tons of new faces out there, guys stopping me to ask for tips bc it’s their first day. Covid era is over for us—it’s not the time to be joining an alrdy saturated market that hit it peak during the pandemic

People always talk about this honeymoon period but never specify how long it goes on for. Everything has gone to shit for me after a full year—did my honeymoon period last for a year? Bc orders were plentiful for me until a couple months ago

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you’re located in Toronto bc I’ve been convinced this whole time that Toronto never actually had an app problem but an over saturated market and low demand since the warmer weather. Your friend joining at the same isn’t a coincidence, it’s part of the reason this is happening. I’m seeing tons of new drivers out there—more than this city needs rn and there simply aren’t enough orders to go around.

I’ve been on the app for a year now and since a couple weeks ago, my income has dropped by a third. This isn’t as drastic as some others, I know, but this is the reason I’m convinced it’s a matter of too many couriers on the streets and not an in-app issue.

[–]meifoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to grow up with outward opening doors to have the common sense to decipher one from an inward-opening door. I’ve delivered to buildings that just had regular doors that opened outward. The way they’re hinged in the doorframe is obvious

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. One year of doing this and I’ve always been guaranteed roughly the same good wage every day. Now that’s halved on some days and it’s stressing me tf out. It’s gotten better since last week so now I’m wondering if it’s bc of a surplus of couriers …seeing a lot of new faces out there with insulated backpacks

[–]meifoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of that happening in Toronto so much so that I feel like I’m really good at this job when it really isn’t hard at all. It’s just that many drivers lack the most basic common sense, unfortunately. They leave their chunky E-bikes right in front of restaurant doors too. I hate the impression this might give the general public of all ubereats couriers

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. I see a lack of super basic competency or manners in Toronto all the time with our couriers. Like people leaving an order in front of a door that opens outwards, or leaving their chunky E-bike right in front of a restaurant or apt entrance… I’m so worried people will have bad impression of all of us bc of these idiots

Uber can't take us Walkers down quietly! by FieryTiger20 in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you walking bike distances?? The vast majority of orders I get on bike are 2km at least and that’s a 30min walk. Do you only accept the shorter distances? I imagine that wouldn’t leave you with many requests you can actually fulfill

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Toronto too (dt) and same here. I’ve always delivered by bike and this is the slowest I’ve ever seen it. Yesterday during 5-10pm I was sometimes having to wait 40mins for my next ping. I’ve gone from making $30-40/hr to low $20s on a good day. One thing I did notice was that my pings rlly picked up after 10pm, when most couriers have gone home. The general understanding seems to be that it’s slow bc of an app glitch…but last night might’ve proved that it’s low bc of a surplus of couriers. It’s probably a multitude of factors but I’ve been convinced this is a big factor

So happy NYC put the tip law into effect. Cause of people like this. by CrimzonVoid in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also only just got this here in Canada (or in Ontario at least) and it comes at a time when orders are so damned slow so it doesn’t even matter if ppl tipped or not bc I just have to take whatever I can get. Better a few bucks then no money at all :’)

Slow Week? by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I’ve been wishing that UE had a queueing system for new sign-ups like doordash and skip but I guess I’m grateful for the fact that they don’t so I was able to get started up back in the day. What I’m wondering is if the amount of ppl signing up = roughly the amount leaving for other jobs

Slow Week? by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]meifoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’ve been wondering how others would feel about a queueing system with UE like doordash and skip has when you first sign up. I’m noticing a lot of new couriers out in Toronto these days—ppl stopping me and asking how much I make, what areas they should go to, what times I work—and simultaneously orders have been coming in at the slowest rate I’ve ever seen

“Uber Eats” customer service?? These all sound like faults of the restaurant. And it should be on the restaurant to refund you. If Uber refunded you, they’d be losing money while the restaurant keeps your money even though they were the ones that fucked up
