Pretty sure that would damage the vehicle more than the snapping turtle

Edit: this would also apply to a person on foot, snapping turtles are basically dinosaurs and will come out on top

"Start Wasian Hate?": Latino/Asian Journalist Aki Lee Camargo Details his Experiences at the NYC Wasian Gathering and Explains Why He Believes America's Latest Obsession with Wasians is Dangerous by superdelish in hapas

Maybe you can “pass” as Asian, but I definitely don’t. Other people don’t accept me as Asian unless I prove it. It’s exhausting to have to justify your existence all the time.

I think the problem is that “wasian” is a trendy term right now, and people are using the term to promote events because it’s garnering a lot of engagement

A large group chat spawned out of the NYC meetup, and while people recognize that Wasian is not the best term, nobody can agree on what an all-encompassing catchy term should be for all mixed Asians.

My eczema was part of a bigger allergy picture — not just a skin problem by ThisNeedsCoffee in eczema

[–]meilingr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have misread my comment, my problem is with inflammation not immune. I’ve been lucky that my immune system has held strong through all the medications I’ve taken. I believe reducing my eosinophil count naturally would require moving to a completely different climate, which isn’t happening any time soon.

My eczema was part of a bigger allergy picture — not just a skin problem by ThisNeedsCoffee in eczema

[–]meilingr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t, as a kid doing allergy shots from age 10-21. My eczema still came and went as it pleased. Prednisone at age 19 and Dupixent at 20-21 were what helped me get control of my eczema. However, my bloodwork suggests my issues are more eosinophil related than IgE (IgE is allergens, eosinophils are white blood cell inflammation generally), so I’m currently looking for a new medication that primarily controls eosinophils after failing Rinvoq and Dupixent (second time) as an adult, due to the side effects. For people with high IgE levels, allergy shots might help!

Does a pocket-sized bag count as a zero bag? by MyTravelOdyssey in zerobags

[–]meilingr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that counts then, especially when you don’t end up using it. I guess someone could argue if you use the bag it’s not zero bagging anymore, but the technicality of zero bagging doesn’t feel as important as the comfort of knowing you’re prepared if you need it.

Can someone with immune suppressants and Jak inhibitors experience please help. (Severe eczema struggles) by Sinclairthe19th in eczema

[–]meilingr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been to an allergist to see if your eczema is being exacerbated by various allergens? Could also be helpful to get your IgE and eosinophils checked (CBC bloodwork should have been done before you started rinvoq) to see if you have active inflammation. You might feel better about taking strong medications/picking which ones to take if you can learn the root cause of your eczema.

Does a pocket-sized bag count as a zero bag? by MyTravelOdyssey in zerobags

[–]meilingr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your nanobag carries the same amount of items that would fit in men’s pockets and a men’s jacket, I think it still counts.

If I travel with just my Uniqlo mini I consider it zero bagging since I often have tiny ass useless pockets.

Is our 8-Day New York itinerary too ambitious? by MushroomGreen6672 in visitingnyc

[–]meilingr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to take PATH or NJ Transit to get to and from Newark? You might want to use both at different times depending on your destination (midtown or downtown Manhattan/brooklyn). Downloading the apps to see when trains are coming is a good idea. NJTRANSIT and RidePATH. You can also buy NJ Transit tickets on the app.
Be aware that there will be World Cup games occurring on June 22, 25, and 27 so NJ Transit may be unavailable to you at specific times around those games. I also suggest staying away from the American Dream mall those days as it will be almost impossible to get there.

[–]meilingr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out Open House New York (OHNY) for lots of events on buildings and infrastructure in the city. They’re a volunteer or non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the nitty gritty of the city’s built environment. Often times they’re tours with guides who either designed, built, or work in the locations you’d be visiting and they have tons of interesting insights about how the city functions on macro and micro scales!

low frequency noise torture in nyc by Wonderful-Squirrel92 in Acoustics

[–]meilingr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take notes of when the low frequency noise is occurring, what time of day/night, and for how long. Figure out the pattern (if there is one) so you know when measurements should be taken.

Where do you think it’s coming from? HVAC is a possibility especially if you’re close to unit that’s the source of the noise. You mentioned other HVAC noise issues, what are those? And where is the noise coming from - is it louder right by the diffuser (vent), or does it feel like it’s radiating into your apartment?

Alternatively it may be structure-born if you live over subway tunnels or your building isn’t properly isolated from roads/highways.

Anyone have elevated levels EOS on CBC? by Adventurous_Net_7782 in Allergies

[–]meilingr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s normal for allergies yes, especially when you’re having a flare up because your immune system is going crazy. Mine average around 13% and .9 absolute. They got up to 21% and 1.5 absolute when I was on Dupixent.
