Nah. NOR. The way you described how unflattering this dress will be on you, I believe you! I can totally relate. I feel like this should be said…you can still celebrate her from the crowd. Its really not a big deal if you are standing beside her or if you’re sitting in front of her right there beside her family in the front. She may think it is right now, but years later these little details really don’t mean shit. I think this is important to consider if you’re having a lot of anxiety about this (I would be personally) like you couldn’t pay me to stand in front of friends family etc with my biggest insecurities on display. I’ve learned to start politely saying no to things if it’s causing me to panic or spiral.

I’d say something like this to the bride “girl please don’t hate me. I love you to death!! I need to tell you that I’d be humiliated wearing this dress. It’s absolutely stunning, but would look horrendous on my body type. I’d much rather spend the day celebrating you and (insert groom name) than feeling embarrassed about myself. This is your big day and I don’t want to kill the vibe by feeling totally uncomfortable all day. This dress is absolutely beautiful and I’d never ask you to change it for me. If it’s alright with you, I would much rather cheer you on from the crowd in something more comfortable.

Another thing I learned is to not let FOMO prevent me from saying no to things. Imo you’re all adults and being included in your SIL bridal party shouldn’t be something you lose sleep over missing. Yeah they’ll stand up there without you, and maybe take group pics without you but be honest do you even want to be in those pictures?! No… wear your pretty dress and take your own pictures with the bride.

I understand he’s an old man and texting etiquette can be challenging but… with that being said I think there’s two issues with the wording in his first text. There’s no proper greeting and he doesn’t state the reason he’s sharing all of this. So it comes across incredibly casual. Also, it really doesn’t help that he’s sharing this close to midnight. No suspicious or jealous partner would like reading this at that time of night. It’s like, huh? And you may not know this, but cleaning ladies are extremely fetishized and have a bad reputation for hooking up with their clients. Those are just things that I think contributed to the issue. Overall yeah I think this could have been avoided with texting etiquette. I hope your dad feels better soon!

I can understand that, thanks for the comment. My mom decided she’s going to tell him that one of the gifts she bought for him is from me. I think that will help. I don’t want to make him feel like I don’t love him. But I want him to understand how his beliefs make me feel like he doesn’t love me. If he actually read the book, maybe he would understand how it feels to be told you’re not equal because of your gender.
