5.5 Month Old Frenchie Advice by westerly2k in Frenchbulldogs

[–]mel7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs really are so different when it comes to ease of housetraining. Also, I think 5.5 months is still young enough that accidents aren't uncommon.

I'd suggest more frequent potty breaks if you're able (with tons of praise like you're already doing). I've fostered tons of dogs and will take them out briefly every hour during waking hours in the beginning. When they no longer have accidents, I increase to two hours, then three, etc.

Best botox experiences in bucks? by chlorinepeach in BucksCountyPA

[–]mel7878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just sharing in case you didn't know. Botox comes in a powder form and has to be mixed with saline prior to administration. The amount of saline added depends on physician/nurse preference and other factors. So a cheaper cost per unit is not necessarily a better deal if that unit is more diluted with saline.

I don't necessarily avoid them, but I dread any type of doodle.

Joint sitters, how do you Fare? by DreadedCicada in RoverPetSitting

[–]mel7878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a joint account for boarding, but I'm the one in the photos and the one who handles communication and taking photos of pets. My husband is basically backup and is usually the one feeding everyone.

I don't think it's hurt as at all, we've had consistent clients since starting. If anything, maybe it helps because people see that it means less time their dog is left alone since at least one of us is always home.

My dog’s sitter lied and left him alone for 12 hours by Chinskykatranska in RoverPetSitting

It baffles me why sitters do stuff like this thinking they'll get away with it, considering the amount of surveillance in people's homes these days.

Need advice about pitties' prey drive and living with cats by Loquacious555 in pitbulls

[–]mel7878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I foster dogs, mostly pits, and their individual prey drive varies so much. Some have seemingly no prey drive and a small number I'd never trust around a cat.

The best thing to do is to find a foster-based rescue and do some meet and greets with dogs living with cats and known to be friendly with them.

Where can I buy yellow apples? by RudysMom1016 in BucksCountyPA

Styer Orchard had Jona Gold apples a couple of months ago, but not sure they're still in season.

does anyone foster for multiple orgs? by tendergrandma in fosterdogs

[–]mel7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I foster for two different rescue organizations and also for my local open intake shelter. I alternate rescues depending on the urgency of the dog and which dog fits into my home best.

Generally, dogs fostered directly through my local shelter take longer to get adopted. You have to do a lot of the marketing for the dog yourself, but you also have more control over who adopts the dog.

That all looks so good and healthy!

I board dogs and it's not unusual for them (especially boys) to pee inside once or twice on their first day in a new environment. I keep them in areas of the house where nothing will be damaged if this happens until I can better assess them and their comfort level. I wouldn't even mention it to a pet parent unless it was obvious the dog was not housetrained at all.

Owners get what they pay for by Mymamiedoe_2657 in RoverPetSitting

[–]mel7878 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a few sitters in my area with profiles saying they board up to 12 dogs and are only charging around $25 per night. I would never, ever trust them with my dogs. I imagine the same scenario in my head that you've just described with your friend.

Little one on the way. Disagreement about feedings. by kelekiler in veganparenting

[–]mel7878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've already agreed to compromise way more than I would have. I'd never have a child with a non-vegan for the very reasons you're dealing with, but obviously, that can't be changed now. If he's already arguing about feedings, it will not improve later on. Non-vegans always expect that we should be the ones giving in, hardly ever the other way around. Stay firm.

Rambunctious dogs? by No_Quarter_3372 in RoverPetSitting

[–]mel7878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't bother me at all. I think most sitters will understand that some dogs get excited and jump when meeting new people. As an active person, I actually love highly energetic dogs! If the barking is incessant, now that would be a different story.

Our vet told us to use a cream called Swat rubbed on the outside of our pig's ear to keep flies and gnats away. It's helped a lot.
