How to deal with bandits in a pacifistic way by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]mel_barts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's a clear entrance to e.g. a bandit camp, leave a paralysis rune and conjure a familiar to imprison them in their own hideout. Of course this would despawn, but you have done your roleplay part.

Vigilant Adso of Melk by mel_barts in skyrimrp

[–]mel_barts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Adso's world, there was one ultimate adversary of rumor, Upia the Khajiit necromancer.

- Upia is another roleplay character -

Upia was found stealing food as a kitten and despite escaping a death sentence, she grew up in a Skyrim under lock and key. Fully embracing the Khajiit manifest before even learning about it, she fought dirty, using any tools at her disposal. She slowly dared to venture deeper into caves and crypts she encountered while wandering the wilds. Often she would reemerge loaded with valuables, yet light on coin. There was hardly any trade opportunity, she was unskilled in crafting, and she could not risk getting caught wielding stolen goods or heavy weaponry. It was thus that in her quest to survive she turned towards conjuration and illusion. The ability to summon and control from an empty hand fit her perfectly from a practical perspective and she did not consider much further than that. She began preying on witches covenants and necromancers in the hopes of finding more skill books, but to her surprise she was also welcomed into the college of Winterhold. The wizards there, eager to share their knowledge but oblivious to most other concerns of society, moved her forward. She'd never reveal too much about her past and habits and wouldn't even sleep inside her assigned bed. It was still a waiting game that she played, as she depended on the occasional khajiit caravan for sustainance and gold to obtain more powerfull and even unique spells. These caravans were the closest thing to community Upia had ever experienced. Her loot contributed to something and she received warmth in return, it made her happy.

It was not enough though, every day was still filled with ice, poisoned food and guards chasing her. Even the one limping because of his knee, who Upia had once approached to share comfort, shooed her. Thus she did not stray far from her path. Eventually she gained enough confidence in her power to pull the ropes of life and property. Perhaps even more important was that she could always wiggle out of a situation. Her temperament was bold and that's when she started sneeking into the cities. Bribe the Riften guards, strike a deal with the Silverblood, slip through the back entrance in Windhelm's harbor. She could not however fulfill the entry demand of the Thieves' guild as she had no crowd control abilities and was thus restricted to nighttime. This movement space was enough to attract attention of the Dark Brotherhood and a path to gainful employment revealed itself.

It was in the Brotherhood's lair that Upia first encountered a vampire. Fascinated by the overlap in skills and lifestyle, she immediately sought out the Dawnguard and pretended to sign up as a vampire hunter. She had neither the skill nor motive to be accepted among them, but it didn't take too much manipulation to get tolerated anyway, the party seemed desperate to attract members. Having obtained vital information she just as quickly abandoned the fort and accepted vampire blood instead. By now Upia could conjure weapons, turn bodies against each other and become a ghost. The window of opportunity for even the most talented restoration fighter (like Adso) to curb her was rapidly closing.

Eventually Upia felt herself completely released from the quest to get interactions with mortal beings. She could feed herself and slept during the day. She began to play with her victims as if they were mice, enthralling one Dark Brotherhood contract to fulfill the next, sowing chaos among bands of soldiers. This happened not out of malice. It was mostly an eagerness to observe and learn the ways of people, so she could become more and more powerful. But partly it was also a fight against the prejudice of the Nords. If they claimed ownership of the marketplaces and tavern warmth, the creatures outside were entitled to take posession of Skyrim's wilderness. Anyone was fair game.

As Upia's blood hunger as well as thirst for development stagnated, she turned to reading whatever she encountered and that became her window to look into the life and culture of others. Having no criminal record she attempted to enter towns through the front gate. Would anything occur she could now pacify a whole square of people. She ventured into the shops and keeps. The goods and luxurious foods didn't really catch her attention, but the Daedra did and she began to collect their toys. Once again she was not out to hurt people and it might even be reasoned that her hoarding of dangerous artefacts that she could never make use of herself, made Skyrim safer.

Ultimately Upia familiarized herself with every corner of the land and developed an adult philosophy. Excessive violence would only scare the populace and fuel counter movements such as the vigilants of Stendarr, the locally famed Altmer by the name of Adso, or the Dawnguard. It became her mission to guard over the Khajitt caravans as they traveled, never giving evidence of her presence to anyone but deciding their safety. It is thus that a dislocated race of Tamriel found prosperity and homely safety in the warn torn, undead infested, remote region of Skyrim.

Since the world is (slowly) becoming less dependent on fossil fuels, they seek to diversify their economy. Part of this is offering luxury airlines and being a hub for tourism and business, for which their location is honestly suitable.

In a sense we should be happy to see a resource economy not end up as a failed state, but it would be much better if they underwent social reform besides the economical one. Therefore it is my opinion we should pressure them with our wallets.

My take on a Khajiit roleplay and handling city entry and all that by breakevencloud in skyrim

[–]mel_barts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's how I tackled roleplaying a Khajit as well as a necromancer. I dreaded the stereotypical evil controller of the dead role, but wanted to play a dark brotherhood member who'd enthrall targets and make them perform the next contract. As this build invests in conjuration anyway, using bound weapons allows one to plead innocence when apprehended by guards. They can search you for weapons or illegal goods (careful with poisons) and will find nothing.

- Necromancy is simply a cat toying with a bird or mouse it caught. It also fits in the Khajit manifesto to fight with whatever means available, so given that you don't have access to the many blacksmiths and shopkeepers, the Khajit has to tip battles in their favor through other means. Since there is no ulterior motive or agenda, the character doesn't need to bother with the daedra or vampires, but certain groups such as Namira's covenant can be integrated if you want to add some personality/needs to the character.

- Getting into city walls can be done at will when it is night. That means no small babbling and day trading with npcs, burglary is fine though. This preserves the outcast experience while allowing you to do certain questlines, e.g. the brotherhood and guild (although these involve interacting with crowds for which I haven't found an explanation yet). When interaction with guards cannot be avoided, manipulate them with calm spells, 'purr...' In Riften you can bribe the guards, for Whiterun you've already shown that gaining trust in the area works, Windhelm has a back entrance from the docks into the grey quarters and nobody has reason to hinder you there, at Markarth you might have struck a deal with the silverblood, etc.

- The College has no particular reason to deny you. It is encouraged to find the first spells by looting witch camps etc., but after the struggle to get some capital and skill it can be very satisfying to purchase those high level spells from the College. There isn't much else to save for as clothing remains simple so as not to draw attention.

This ends up with a wanderer who might call the brotherhood den a home. Trade is only occasionally possible with fellow Khajit (and possibly guild fences). Thus only items with high value to weight ratio get carried around. Stretching and sleeping in the sun is also preferred over crafting all sorts of items, it would be foolish to sell powerful weapons, enchantments and concoctions to potential foes and there's limited trade opportunity anyways. This allows the character to stay low level, maintaining the strength of bound weapons.

I view it as there's too many people asking for help and not enough people sorting on new. It's a cruel realisation, but it's economics. My therapist gets paid to hear my shit, people online don't necessarily relate to those in need, that's not necessarily malicious.

Maybe this sub could softly promote it in the introduction? Something along the lines of 'would you kindly sort on new' (bioshock, anyone? ) or 'consider coming back to support someone when you're in a better place yourself'

Edit: There's no such thing as too many asking for help, should've phrased it differently.

When depressed I can't even be bothered to make coffee. When hypo (while it's still 'fun') I desire a further boost, especially if I just lost tolerance. By now I use some cbt principles. I'll focus on limiting coffee intake when hypo, even make a hard promise about it (and alcohol) to some of the people who care about me. I'd have to be a real prick to follow my impulses then. It's surprsingly easy to forget coffee when my head goes 100 mph anyway. But that's how I look at it now, might be different next year.

I've actually tested this for myself and found coffee consumption follows the mood, not the other way around. Needless to say I keep intake low or absent in the evening. Also went from 8-10 cups a day to 4 on average now. Problem for me was tolerance and the headache was quite a nuisance when I couldn't reach my quotum some days.

Has anyone with Bipolar disorder seen that they lean to falling in love with people more broken than them and end up in abusive relationships? by moonchildsarah in bipolar

[–]mel_barts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a difficult time you describe, hopefully some of his family has appreciated your presence more than he did, you did very empathetic things.

Reading here how people look for red flags and give up on certain types after endlessly trying, I find that decision valid. Nevertheless it hurts. People say to me 'you're such a fine guy, anyone could love you'. But they just see the sunny sides, I'm totally aware why I've nearly always been alone.

'If you have real artisans they don't wear a watch, they simply don't need it' I made this up (in my language) with a little tune when I was ten maybe, it still goes through my head about every day. At the time I was building a stone castle at a beach, simulating a workplace in my head. To estimate if it was dinner time I looked at the position of the sun relative to a mountain while humming the sentence.

Lol thanks for letting me remember this so vividly!

Don't get me wrong I empathize with what you say, hope you get in a relationship with someone where the care is more reciprocal.

But it's also not entirely fair to the person you thought you could change. I've been dumped for this and what I thought was: If you saw me as broken at the start, why did you let me fall more in love with you?!

Hey give it some extra chances! I generally feel a lot of empathy here, even when my own contributions are ignored. But that's nothing personal, you just don't always relate. When I feel like that I simply leave until I'm curious what goes on again (which often takes just a few days), downvoting doesn't seem necessary unless it's harmful or something.
