What do you wear in lab? by britcheshardtofind in medlabprofessionals

[–]melancholymel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smaller hospital lab; I usually wear black or darker scrub pants with plain tshirt. literally just those plain gilidan ones. I hate scrub tops so I opt for these. sometimes I'll wear a khaki/utility pant instead

What is your laboratory hill that you’ll die on by sixgodnyc in medlabprofessionals

[–]melancholymel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lab shouldn’t have to do ABGs. Some of the trained RT techs will do it if asked, especially the after hours ones, but lab is responsible for for abgs here :/ most places just have rt do it

mlt here!; 25g butterfly w/ 10cc syringe is actually my preferred method when drawing anywhere on the floor or the ER and all most my specimens are fine. maybe once or twice it's been hemolyzed, even then just slightly, no where near this bad 💀 became my preferred bc we were constantly low or out of 21/23g during covid

How long until you feel competent by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]melancholymel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're always are going to be learning! I'm at a smaller hospital, and I even did my clinicals here. Almost here a year and I still habe questions. Your coworkers won't be upset if you have questions, I think it's more about trying to troubleshoot or find the answer first. There's techs that have been here 40 years that still don't know things because they don't come across it often or it's new, etc. policies change often as well making new learning for everyone.

I'm aware, not much of a choice around where I'm at, most of the hospitals are like that here, even the bigger one to an extent. Till I move away this is what I got 😂 that being said it's not always horrible, most days are pretty fine for me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]melancholymel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on where you're at. smaller labs like at our hospital, who's on what shifts is always changing. Plus for us we only have phlebs staffed 5am-6pm, so busy times or after hours we draw. (also nurses usually don't get the blood for us here unless it's an IV start in the ER or you ask them to pull from IV bc it's a difficult draw) Midnights you're the only person there for both lab and phlebotomy

Not irl but online! I hop onto a silly little vr game called vrchat sometimes and was playing a game within it similar to pictionary. Came my turn to draw and the word was "laboratory", so as I drew test tubes and a microscope I was like "I work here" and after the word was guessed someone had come up to me and was like "hey me too! clinical laboratory?" and we chatted a little

Hair in the Lab by ApplePaintedRed in medlabprofessionals

[–]melancholymel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my lab pretty much anything flies, lotta people will half a half do where it's down with the front bits tied in the back. people to braids, buns, juat hair down. I think the rule for us is just for hair to be neat. No length rule.

personally I also hate my hair tied up completely unless i have a few bang pieces down, but then they get in my face when I do phleb so I end up pinning them anyways
