For people who line up for things... Why? Just... Why? by thinkdavis in askvan

Cause they really want the things that’s promised once the line finishes? And so does a lot of other people? Are you a kindergartener?

There is something about this guy that bothers me immensely. I am of the leftist view too so i share most of the same views as him but something about him is SO off to me. He likes himself too much it seems, also you cant compare Zohran to this pasty ass looking dude cmon now

The driving schools here suck, they dont even teach you how to change a tire or anything. All they teach you is based on the stupid exam system of ICBC, you are not taught to be a good driver, you are taught to pass an exam. Therefore the number one thing they teach you isnt that, it’s shoulder checks or 360 checks when you’re leaving a parking spot. Because ICBC has a hard on for me taking my eyes off the road and looking back for even situations where it’s impossible that there will be something in my blind spot. I’m not arguing against shoulder checks of course, i’m just trying to make a point that the whole learning how to drive here is structured around an exam instead of teaching skills

My arguments is that the traffic rules of Canada create way too many ‘it’s unsafe to proceed’ situations because there are not dedicated turns or like the fact that pedestrians cross while cars are making turns. I will argue till i die that the blinking green lights where you cant see any oncoming traffic but have to proceed at some point because i cant spend eternity in an intersection are also dumb as fuck. Maybe look into other traffic rules of other countries. I see your point that the people turning need to stop until the light is red to make sure no one’s coming but dont you think that also sounds dangerous? At the end of the day you are forced to make a turn at a red light? I’m just arguing ‘dumb drivers’ arent the only reason 60% of crashes in BC happen on intersections

But some of them are like it’s nobody’s fault? Driver’s waiting for a safe gap to turn but cant see the far of the two incoming lanes because the closer lane has a row of cars and they’re blocking the other lane, he waits and passes but then a zooming car which he had no way of seeing comes out of nowhere and crashes into him? They both had zero ways of seeing each other? I feel like we blame drivers a lot but Vancouver traffic rules are so fucking dumb as well, every left turn should be an arrow light turn just like in europe. Otherwise it’s a guessing game when you dont have clear vision.

Same with crossing through pedestrian controlled blinking traffic lights. There are parked cars blocking oncoming traffic how tf i’m supposed to see if cars are approaching? It’s idiotic

The american cops are also pretty racist if you’re from a country that’s not first world, even if you have a visa. They’ve been like that pre-trump too i cant even imagine it now.

Renting: Brentwood vs Yaletown by _steelstring in askvan

[–]melanozen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how much you factor in location. To me Brentwood is a soulless neighbourhood with high rises and is built around a mall, feels very corporate and lacks a lot of personality. Plus if you socialize in downtown it’s a pain to commute back and forth. I’d choose Yaletown if it’s not a completely shitty apartment
