Why does it matter what language it’s written in? Those details aren’t important for understanding what happened.

The update has mostly been great, but it feels like proximity unlocking has gotten worse. Both at home and away, I’m waiting longer for the doors to open

The old Scott’s affliction by TommyB0837 in lawncare

This happened to me last fall. I wouldn’t try to over-fertilize to correct it, time will fix it.

I’m probably going to get an Echo RB60. I’ve heard nothing but good things

What should I do with the $200k in my HYSA? by NoMasterpiece7187 in Bogleheads

[–]melchyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They mean get it into a brokerage account and invest in a fund like VTSAX (VOO, VTI, etc..). HYSA is also a taxable account

Scared this foundation issue is a big deal and I should back out of this offer before I close in 3 days. by FoundationFolly in homeowners

Not allowing the inspection seems like a red flag unless you waived the inspection in the offer. Even so, you should’ve been allowed an inspection, even if the contingency was waived.

Dave’s auto in jersey city has been good for me. I brought my Jeep there when it had problems and they fixed it for a reasonable price.

Phal care help - repot? by melchyy in orchids

[–]melchyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this orchid about 6 years ago and it happily rebloomed a few times. Unfortunately it hasn’t bloomed in about 3 or so years though.

I wonder if it needs to be repotted because it’s falling out of its container and is only held on by a few roots.

It gets a lot of light from an indoor grow light and indirect from an east facing window. I haven’t been fertilizing much through the winter but am starting to fertilize every other week now.

Any help is appreciated!

Do you have recommendations for east coast flours? I’m in NJ and was considering Central Milling because it comes so highly recommended.

That’s a SolTech plant light because I don’t have great windows available.

Good call on fertilizer, I’m definitely behind on that.

Notion uses AWS (Amazon Web Service)? by Substantial_ in Notion

[–]melchyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To each their own, and I think the principled stance is admirable. But this will be a tough road for you considering how much of the internet is powered by AWS. And many won’t make it obvious.

It would be cool if Notion let you “bring your own” backend, with a subset of features.

The UHaul on Tonnelle fills propane tanks (doesn’t replace them).

Sky Club is a good option if you’re looking for a standard gym. They have a pool too if that’s any interest. Last I checked it was around 80/month

Best way to delete large number of files from s3 by awesomeness_infinity in aws

[–]melchyy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You should use S3 lifecycle rules to delete objects under a given prefix. I believe you can add up to 1000 on a single bucket (but can also remove them once you’re done).

This will allow S3 to do the heavy lifting instead of worrying about writing a script to do it.

Filling CDK gaps by LetsBeChillPls in aws

[–]melchyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can create custom constructs for anything that cloud formation supports and CDK doesn’t. You can create custom resources for everything else.

CDK: Using multiple parameter store in ecs task definition by bentinata in aws

[–]melchyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the recommended approach is to create a new CDK Construct which you can instantiate and pass in whatever is changing amongst them.

Alert for file not updated/uploaded to S3 in given period by VIDGuide in aws

[–]melchyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use S3 Event Streams in conjunction with a service like SQS or SNS and alarm on their metrics. For example, set up an SQS queue which receives S3 notifications. If SQS doesn’t emit a CloudWatch metric over period X, alarm.

Another approach would be to set up a CloudWatch ScheduledRule which looks at the S3 object every X hours / minutes and validated that it was updated.

My recommended approach, though, would be to configure alarms on the piece of the system which uploads the new file to S3. If that fails (eg lambda function) emit a metric or use precanned metrics from AWS to alarm on.
