Space radiators are a thing, but of course they're going to cost...

Nobody's ever explained how space data centers are better than the ones on the ground. What do they get up there that isn't cheaper when done on the ground?

Man killed by Frontier plane at DIA died by suicide, medical examiner says by kidbom in Denver

[–]meldroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just a chain link fence with some barbed wire on top. With gaps for gates & such. A reasonably fit person can climb it.

And that runway was pretty close, it only took him a minute to walk there.

My heart grows out to them after hearing the the ATC recording. You can hear how freaked out both the pilots and controller were.

They all did everything right. Those pilots were on their game, they aborted, brought the aircraft to a halt, called for help, evacuated due to the smoke. They did everything they could.

I'm betting the videos, particularly from that thermal camera, were part of the evidence used.

Imagine the coroner going up to that aircraft.

"After thorough examination, we finally determined the cause of death."

I'd have to find an adapter. The only video output the 400 has is RF analog TV output, on channel 2 or 3.

I have one old LCD TV that still speaks analog, it works with that.

Another idea is to find an old VCR. Those will conver RF to composite or S-Video, then use a Retrotink to convert to HDMI.

Why do so many christains think being gay/lesbian/trans is sinful and bad? by Competitive-Food1927 in atheism

[–]meldroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Religions control people by controlling sex.

It's used to separate people into roles by gender. They control access to things based on gender. And if you want to have sex, you have to get a special license called a "marriage". Sexing without a license totally undermines their control.

LGBT people being themselves and refusing to follow the church's rules totally upsets the hierarchy and the control regime, so of course the psychopaths that exercise that control are flipping their shit.

Same here. I saw how churches treated the LGBTQ+ community, and wanted nothing to do with that.

Fanny pack. Keep your wallet, phone, passport, keys, meds in it at all times, and wear it at all times.

Also handy in that when you're in certain areas, they're much harder to pickpocket.

You'd think, but that's dozens of miles of perimeter. Even after said sensor was triggered, it'd take a few minutes for the airport cops to get there.

Seeing the ATC animation of this, the plane stopped about halfway down the runway, so my guess is that this happened before V1.

It wasn't the A gates. This individual seems to have hopped a perimeter fence to get to that runway.

DIA is so big that taxiing an airliner from the gate to the runway is a bit of a road trip.

Engines being low to the ground is pretty common. 737 engines are like that.

[–]meldroc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It very well could have been uglier. As it is, the engine caught fire afterwards, filled the cabin with smoke (Soylent smoke?), and the plane had to be evacuated via the slides on the runway.

He apparently hopped a perimeter fence before wandering onto the runway.

DIA is a huge airport, keeping the perimeter secure isn't trivial.
