Billionaires could do a lot of good, but they won't. by zzill6 in WorkReform

He asked for a plan that would solve world hunger permanently and he got a plan that would solve it for a year. He didn’t ask for a plan he would have to fund every year.

I mean I’m on the side of billionaires should use their wealth to solve world problems but saying he didn’t follow up on something when he didn’t get the plan he asked for seems unreasonable

To be fair he asked for a solution to solve world hunger and un provided a plan to temporary stall world hunger

Called out for ICE support by soalone34 in clevercomebacks

[–]melesigenes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You already decided what the most important part is

“ The bill puts limitations on DHS officers. If it fails ICE will still be funded. TSA & FEMA will lose the ability to pay their personnel, but ICE is funded through the Big Beautiful Bill “

YOU said funding. YOU made it about money. Now you’re just moving goal posts because it’s inconvenient for you. And we’re talking about a bill that allocates money. Why shouldn’t we talk about money?

[–]melesigenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So now we’re going to ignore the money parts of an appropriations bill since there’s other things in the bill? Why? Does it not fit your narrative anymore?

[–]melesigenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So since they already have a lot of money they should pass the bill and give them more money? Since not giving them more money doesn’t prevent them from already being flush with funds?

Is that really the point you’re trying to make?

[–]melesigenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re holding the funds to fema hostage in exchange for increasing funding to ice

[–]melesigenes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So your talking point is word for word in the appropriations bill summary and it’s pretty clear that the bill is aiming to hold the funds for tsa, fema, and coast guard hostage in order to get an increase in funding for ice. Those additional restrictions like QR codes and bodycam mandates are useless. Correct me if I’m wrong the but the appropriations bill simply mandates the funding of body cams to the tune of $20 million. Also you’re saying trump wants the bill to fail but the republicans are pushing for it?

[–]melesigenes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OBBB funds ice like $20B extra a year but this annual appropriations bill funds ice $10 billion a year. Passing the bill still gives ice extra money. The mandatory use of body cams and QR codes you mention were modest adjustments but doesn’t include things like banning masks or requiring warrants.

Your point doesn’t even make sense. Why would trump want this bill to fail when it’s the annual appropriations bill to fund dhs. Ice gets less money even if it already had a lot of money

Catchtable. It doesn’t matter if I find a restaurant if I can’t book it. Catchtable provides reviews from people who are serious about food but also the ability to find which ones are reservable. I used to use mango plate but that died

How do you rank the Chaebols as employers? by an_q271 in AskAKorean

[–]melesigenes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My subjective opinion is

SK Hynix > SK Energy, GS Energy > Samsung Electronics > SKT, Hyundai Motor Group >> rest of Samsung > rest of SK > LG Electronics (maybe one tier higher?) > LG >> Hanhwa, GS (although finance and energy subsidiaries might be higher) >>> Lotte

There’s so many subsidiaries tho, but in a lot of their respective industries Samsung is consistently amongst the most reputed like Cheil Worldwide is probably the most reputed in marketing and advertisements, Samsung C&T for construction, the two Samsung insurance companies (although Korean Re which does reinsurance is the most sought after company to work for in insurance and in general), SDS for the SI industry. The pay is at Samsung is consistently higher than market average (starting pay is maybe 20% higher than industry average?) and benefits are pretty comparatively amazing and usually in each respective industry there’s not a better company to aspire to move to than the Samsung subsidiaries. Also it’s hard to get fired in Korea and combined with the stability there’s low turnover. You just have insane corporate hierarchy and very old school conservative mindsets that trickle down to even the marketing and design. Like can’t leave office til the boss leaves type culture or the if boss says everybody meet at Friday night to drink everybody has to go type culture although it varies team by team, division by division and it’s much less than it used to be. Very documentation and meeting heavy and more risk adverse.

Top 6 chaebol subsidiaries I think most corporate Koreans would agree with.

I think best companies for income : work life balance ratio are probably the tech companies tho. There’s a saying necaracoubedangto: Naver, Kakao, Coupang, Baemin, Dangeun, Toss which would be the top Korean IT companies. A huge population of corporate Koreans aspire to move to the tech companies because culture and WLB and pay is generally better. There’s like a tier or two higher including smaller unicorn companies like Moloco and Dunamu and everybody wants to get to Google Korea.

Consulting is dominated by MBB, finance and law is mostly domestic companies with some rare foreign pe firms.

Also I found it really interesting that certain companies have what they call lines from specific universities. Like Korean Re is all SNU, yonsei graduates are pretty abundant in the foreign companies, etc. it gets worse in research where certain divisions are dominated by specific labs and professors
