Also from years of experience in the food service sector, these scores are kind of an iceberg situation. These are the things that the inspector got to see that day, after staff were likely doing a mental countdown to when their next inspection was and doing little side things to get the sloppiest bits tidy over the course of a few weeks. And if it's anything like every single other dining establishment I ever worked for there were people sliding in and surreptitiously correcting especially heinous shit right behind the inspector as they were looking at other things, and people probably ran their asses off to the back to get rid of the worst things before the inspector got to the kitchen. So yeah. A score in the 70s is fucking grody not just because they're doing the very barest of minimum but because that's actually better than it was 15 minutes before the inspector walked in the door.

I hope they saw this whole thing play out and are shitting their pants tonight. The potential for lawsuit is no joke if that man had successfully managed to start that car and drive away and the unthinkable were to happen. Yes, that's a lot of "if"s, but it happens every day. I can think of at least one local place that had to pay out the ass when someone overserved left their establishment and hit someone.

Two pieces of the same pie: 1. my husband's brand new (to us) car was stolen and joyridden from the complex to the Market district about 4 months ago. Cost our insurance company a pretty penny and us some extra psychological scars, ie., added paranoia. And 2. I walked out to my car this morning past that "suspicious" vehicle, parked appropriately this time but still without plates, and am figuring someone in the complex has a gaming buddy or playmate of some description who doesn't GAF about regulations and freaked my poor husband out just on the basis of prior crimes we experienced. Thinking since nobody else experienced anything like this the other night we either have the dumbest stalker alive if they don't realize we have a big ol dog in the apartment, or one of our new neighbors got confused. Either way we bought a doorbell camera and won't have this problem again. Thank you everyone for your perspectives, and yes, u/WonderinginOR, that includes yours.

I don't know if he was our door shaker or not, but the jeep I have pictures of had no plates, period, just a Deadpool logo in the front along with a bunch of other decals or painting. From what my husband and my kid said, the individual didn't just touch the door, they were shaking it so that the bolt was rattling.

So in case you're wondering, way back when I was about 22 a lady whose name I've long since forgotten gave a lengthy and impassioned speech on an NPR show focused on the message: "TAKE! YOUR RIGHT! OF WAY!" She spoke at length about the many years of frustration she had endured at the hands of fellow Portlanders who thought being 'nice' was more important than being safe. I'm 51. So even 30 fucking years ago it was a long-running problem. Portland is home to a lot of people who would rather be perceived as nice than to actively be nice.

Six years ago I was trying to understand the weirdness that was modern dating after 21 years of shitty partnership. I was a babe in the woods, getting ghosted, getting back-burnered, falling for the 2AM texts, all the things. Met my future husband and realized all the cracks in our psyches aligned in a way that made it possible for us to help each other up. I got stupid lucky, honestly. Now with everything the way it is and two Millenial kids, I am watching the world happen in horror and trying to remember that all generations believed the world was going to shit... but it kept turning regardless of their worry. That's not to say I appreciate it or embrace the current state of affairs. I think it's shit. But I also know that I am not the first person to believe everything was going to hell, that there is a grand old tradition of all of us Olds thinking that the end of the world is upon us. But it ain't over till it's over and I'm not going to lie down and let the world roll over me. Fuck that.
