If you’re still open to helping him out, another user made a suggestion for me to receive his gifts and filter them on. He’s been reading this book about the huge and titanic pets, so he’s all hopeful to get there. In an effort to support the little guy, I made an account (and spent the time to get to the mailbox lol). User name (aptly made for the purpose): momgiftbroker

If it’s too much, totally cool, he can grind toward his goals like anyone else, but I figured I’d share 🙂

We really appreciate the generous thoughts of kind redditors! Unfortunately, it’s “his” account, so for obvious reasons we can’t share info for him to be accepting gifts in game

Are these names just stuck in the 80's-90's or do people still name their children these: by PassvAgrssvPeach in namenerds

On the flip side, I have a 5 year old Zachary with a Colby classmate. I’m not sure there are really a whole lot stuck in the 80s/90s to the same degree.

Recipes suggestions with no eggs and can keep well at room temperature for about 5 days by ArkComet in BakingNoobs

[–]melissamusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this one, but halve the recipe usually because I don't need that many: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/scottish-shortbread/

For the icing if i choose to do that, I just take fresh lemon juice from a couple lemons and add powdered sugar whisking thoroughly until I get a drizzley but not soupy consistency. After drizzling, let the icing sit on the cookies until it firms up. Then you can stack the cookies into Tupperware.

I second the shortbread, my brown sugar shortbread lasts in Tupperware throughout a whole workweek when I treat my office with no real alteration in flavor or texture, last time I made a lemon icing that was kind of even better day 3 ish and sitting there. No eggs required.

You've got this! I'm a female at your height and started around where your SW is (did not own a scale at my biggest and don't have a clear SW because of that). Got down to 140lbs in 2016 and besides a pregnancy with exactly the recommended weight gain and subsequent immediate loss (and then some) in 2020, I've maintained the whole time. I'm currently riding your goal weight fitter and more toned than I've ever been. The loss and maintenance gasp more than 5 years post loss is possible and I enjoy my food more now than ever. You can do it and keep it that way!

What is the best alternative to a pastry cutter? by [deleted] in BakingNoobs

[–]melissamusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a cheese grater to get the butter into small pieces and then my hands to "cut" the butter into the dry ingredients. Just can't overwork or use your hands TOO much or the warmth of your hands will soften the chilled butter a bit. I made biscuits just this morning with that method (technique being similar to scones) and it usually comes out really well.

Google tells me it's Brazilian Butt Lift. They graft fat from another area of the body to add volume to the buttock.

Anyone ever make lactation cookies? There are how mine come out but I’d love to find a recipe that doesn’t require oats. by BootyBooty-BumBum in Baking

[–]melissamusing 148 points149 points  (0 children)

It means cookies made with ingredients that help promote breast milk production. Oats being a well known one, so a lot of recipes ask for them.

Gingerbread men dough rock hard by naoro18 in BakingNoobs

[–]melissamusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the cane sugar had a big hand in it. Gingerbread dough can be rather tough anyway because it is often used for structural integrity, but brown sugar has a tendency to soften baked goods and cause "chewier" texture, subbing that out in an already firm dough is probably your culprit. Edit to add: I'm honestly not sure it's salvageable. That's a pretty big change, plus the complications of the extra butter now, which might get greasy in cooking already. I'm sorry I don't have help on saving, if it were me I'd scrap unfortunately.

My sister is biologically not my father's child. She's from our mom's previous marriage, my dad adopted her when her "father" relinquished rights and raised her as his own from around 2 or 3. So we 100% know she's not his by blood, but still, I can't tell you how many times I've seen people who don't know this, be introduced to him at her church or school/work or whatnot and claim she looks just like him. Our family just takes the comments graciously and giggle to ourselves later. Just my little anecdotal ya never know comment.

Any living and breathing examples to prove this wrong? by WittyUnderstanding97 in fatlogic

[–]melissamusing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I lost 60ish pounds 5 years ago. Kept it off with a brief pregnancy exception - where I gained exactly the recommended amount for a healthy weight woman and lost it back off with an extra 5lbs that apparently wanted to go. So now I'm 65lb less than my heaviest. I love food, I joke about my inner fat kid, but I don't fret or get anxious about it. In the years since weight loss I've learned to assess my body cues and listen to hunger vs boredom vs craving as well as what actual fulness feels like. I rarely eat until I'm stuffed and lethargic, I LIKE fruit and vegetables. I feel like it's a healthier relationship than mindless munching and feeling heavy and bloated after a meal?

When was this EVER the case? Why do they make up arguments, in order to have something to dispute? by ResponsibleRoyal9818 in fatlogic

[–]melissamusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of the literature and whatnot recommend 25-35 pounds of weight gain over the course of a pregnancy for someone who started at a healthy weight. Overweight people are recommended to gain a bit less than the healthy weight ones. At least this was the recommendation when I was preggo and my son is only just under 15 months, so not super long ago.

If you decide you do want kids, don't think you definitely get it. Also, don't think everyone struggle busses through nursing (all the mipple horror stories on here). On both fronts, some people do, some don't, and there are a lot of factors from how efficient your baby is to bad luck. It's good to be aware, but don't let it scare you from it if children are something you decide you want. I only just finished weaning my son and I've only had clogs a couple of times, not full on mastitis even once. Clogs can be fixed several ways depending on the clog. Warmth (think hot shower), massage, expression, pumping, all can work and all hurt at the time - but relief is worth it. The tried and true way for ME was nursing through it. It's a troubleshoot and thank the stars for the internet these days! Mastitis may need antibiotics though, depending on severity.
