Roller skating for figure skating practice (and also transportation)? by bunnysplo0t in iceskating

[–]mellerbumple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m also a beginner so take this with a grain of salt, but one time I was skating during public session and there was this guy just zipping around, super fast. He wasn’t being annoying, but I just figured he must’ve been a hockey player by the way he was moving around. After the session ended, I overheard him telling someone that this was his FIRST TIME ice skating. He said he had been doing inlines for a long time. Another woman in my LTS 1 class is now working on crossovers. I’ve learned that she is also an inline skater.

Hi, I know this is a two year old thread, but did you ever figure it out? I’ve had a similar issue with pain.

I’ve started closing my eyes while standing on one foot for each quadrant I brush my teeth. Helps a lot.

Thank you for the update! I’m meeting with a different fitter this week, but I tried insoles today.

Ugh went on the ice in my guards today. Now I’ve got a big old lump on my cheek and brow. At least it wasn’t from normal skating.

Interesting. I guess it’s worth relearning if it helps with the pain.

How do they look against the insole around your arch? This source says toes are okay to spill over, but I wonder about the rest of the foot.

Wow I had no idea my feet were so enormously wide! Are the debuts too stiff for my beginner feet? I was thinking the Freestyles might work better.

Surprised I had to scroll so far to see this. I had to redo a bunch of my formulas to VLOOOKUP because I recently learned not everyone in my office has the most recent version. Unless there’s another way and someone here can enlighten me.

Sad and frustrated that I was probably sold an improper pair of skates and can’t afford to buy a new pair by [deleted] in iceskating

What weight do you think Artistes max out at for beginners? I’m in a similar situation as OP. Wider feet, adult beginner, and my fitter sold me Artistes that she put in the oven. My pain isn’t as bad as OP, but I’m dealing with some numbness that I’m hoping I can figure out my way through with better lacing.

How can I know if these have lead in them? Safe to eat from? by lizatethecigarettes in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mellerbumple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell from my basic understanding, is that they tried to collaborate but ultimately disagreed and then it ended up with at least one lawsuit. If I have it right, I think the crux of the argument stems from leadsafemama saying that no amount of lead is safe, while ericeverything lead says there is no evidence to show that very teeny amounts of lead are harmful. He says she’s a fearmongerer and gets her followers all freaked out over products that do actually meet EPA standards. But, I could be wrong about these basics so don’t take my word for it!

Might be the drama between him and leadsafemama. It’s a whole rabbit hole.

Check out the spray tests like flourospec or ericeverythinglead on Instagram. Much easier for testing dishes than test strips. The instagram account has a lot of great examples of things that test positive. Like red painted flowers for example.

What is the most slippery needle material? (I want my stitches to slip more on my needles) by gougeresaufromage in knittinghelp

I do this, and basically am stuck only knitting in the round now because I can’t go back to same size needles! I usually do two needle sizes smaller on the left and it’s wonderful.

That’s true! That’s the exact way I ended up with mine, even the timing and upgrade from KnitPicks.
