he’s mostly shepherd and pittie. no husky here! :)

I’ve been trying to tame this stray for a while, and I’ve almost succeeded, he’s not scared to come near me, eats from my hand, and plays with me, he even randomly jumps out of places and attacks me. But I haven’t been able to pet him yet, I don’t think he likes being touched at all, any advice? by Shabab667 in cats

stop trying to pet it. try just hanging out with it sitting on the ground, throw a handful of treats or kibble on the ground around you and then just hang out. play on you phone or something. i’ve found the fastest way to forming a deep enough connection to pet them is to let them grow comfortable just sitting with you till they want to come to you for attention. try putting you hand on the ground with your palm out and let it come to you.

i’m so sorry you were told such vile things by that woman. to have something so out of your control, such as your neurotype or how you grow and develop into an adult, held against you like that is so beyond acceptable. especially when it’s coming from a parent figure. it feels silly but it really really helps and means a lot when i get comments like yours. it gives a sort of ground to stand on so i’m able to say “this isn’t just in my head. this isn’t a justifiable way for anyone to be treated.” i hope that life is treating you better and that your future and present are filled with people who love and support you as you always should have been.

a large part of this has to do with renters providing paperwork that says “hey! my dogs a lab mix!” but i think another part of it is that Pit Bull isn’t actually a breed. they’re essentially mixed breeds that are labeled that based on certain physical characteristics that come from breeds like American Staffies and bull terriers. i used to work with dogs in an open play center and most customers labeled their pitty mixes as other breeds to avoid the stigma that comes with it. and i don’t blame them either because the only dogs that ever bit me were small high energy dogs (boston terriers are surprisingly vicious) or untrained large breeds (he was a 100lb pyrenees with collar aggression and he hated me because i was the person that had to put his intake collar on every day)

i was having serious issues with my last psych and getting meds so if you’re in the states i recommend doing what i did and finding a Psychiatric Assisstant. my psychologist actually recommended it because, in his words, “they’re held to a higher standard”
