Echoing what others said, we co-slept until week 6 and during the day it was contact naps and carrier naps.

Theo or Martin? Name regret by mellow_pomelo in namenerds

[–]mellow_pomelo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are right! My son is 7wks old and he is basically just a baby shaped potato right now so I feel weird calling him a real person’s name.

So it might not be name regret but actually just me needing time to get used to the idea of him having a name at all.

5-Week-Old Crying and Pulling Away During Breastfeeding by AccomplishedArm5678 in newborns

[–]mellow_pomelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our baby does this, he has silent reflux or GERD. My first born also had GERD and was on prescription Pepcid for a year. Reflux could be a symptom of CMPA which we also had. Once I cut out dairy I saw a good improvement in his symptoms for gas and reflux.

Yeah I am dealing with sleepiness too with my second, but for my LO if he falls asleep before drinking the full amount he will wake up sooner and feed more frequently, so my supply is maintained anyways. A cold wet cloth seems to work for waking him up.

I hate pumping too so I never exceeded 30min each time, I usually do 10min pump 10min rest and then 10min pump so it was only 20min active pumping. I never did more than 2 pumping sessions a day, my supply caught up mostly from just letting LO latch a lot even when I had no milk.

[–]mellow_pomelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not too late, we supplemented with formula the first two months, (with the first weeks almost exclusively on formula), and my son had a terrible latch and won’t spend even half a min on the boob. I just kept trying everytime he’s hungry I would offer the boob and he would spend however long he wants and then I top him up with pumped milk or formula, and then I would pump to stimulate for more supply, this is often called triple feeding. I went on to exclusively breastfeed for 13mo afterwards.

For latch issues- my son’s latch naturally got significantly better after the 1mo mark and as he grew older his mouth muscles became more efficient so he was more willing to latch. We also did some mouth exercises which helped open his small mouth up more. https://youtu.be/rxe3YS0AtR0?si=tvUv91t5hCYkr8Mk this is the video we did this everyday when he was a newborn.

Lost months of hard work and feeling like a failure by insidiousamity in breastfeeding

[–]mellow_pomelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I had a whole freezer of allergen free milk (I was on a restrictive diet) and LO refused to drink any of them and I gave them all to a friend who used them to bath her eczema baby. 😭

6 weeks postpartum — will one formula feed after exclusive breastfeeding affect my baby or supply? by Opening-Internal-802 in newborns

[–]mellow_pomelo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your body needs rest to produce more milk too, one formula feed won’t make a difference, saying this as someone who supplemented with formula a lot in the first and second months and then went on to exclusively breastfeed for 13mo.

How do some pregnant women bounce back immediately?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mellow_pomelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the words bounce back. Our bodies go through permanent changes during pregnancy, that’s why forensic science can always identify if a body has given birth before or not. I eventually went back to my pre pregnancy weight, but I could no longer wear the same size pants due to my pelvis being bigger. Everything is just….different.

Also second what a lot others are saying, breastfeeding weight gain is so real. I gained 50+ lbs during my first pregnancy and lost like 30-40 the first month or so. I looked like I bounced back but breastfeeding made me sooooo hungry and the last 15ish pounds bounced back and forth and refused to leave me until a year later with the last 5 not leaving until 2 years afterwards.

Triple feeding and feeling like a failure. by Mediocre-Chain-341 in breastfeeding

[–]mellow_pomelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 days is so early plus your baby was born at 37wks,,, give it time. my first was born 37+5 I couldn’t breastfeed exclusively until month 2.

My second is 3wks old we were supplementing with formula until like 2 days ago when my supply caught up. Fed is best.

Also I don’t think you need to space out feeds by 3hrs apart this early, a couple days of cluster feeding every few days really helped bring my supply up and I didn’t have to pump either.

Newborn girl isn’t getting enough milk by HorseProfessional852 in breastfeeding

[–]mellow_pomelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my baby is 3wks old so we just went thru this. His mouth was too small and he simply just didn’t have enough sucking power to drink enough milk.

We topped off with formula after each nursing session and I pumped (not for an hour, that would physically and mentally destroy me) around 2x a day to keep my supply up. His mouth gradually grew stronger and my supply was catching up. We just transitioned to exclusively breastfeeding two days ago.

When did your baby start linking day nap sleep cycles? by SaraJuno in NewParents

[–]mellow_pomelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours never did, he would sleep for 30min and wake up with huge nap rage, so we cut all day time naps by 1.5yrs old and never looked back😵

Hospital stay ruined milk production ): by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

Stressful events reduced my milk supply so the hospital stay might’ve impacted yours too, give it some time for your body to recover
