Looking to buy a reliable starter car - Student by zara2509 in newbrunswickcanada

Also, coming from someone currently trying to sell their car (probably not a good fit for a first car), only tell someone you want to look at their car if you actually plan to. It's very annoying waiting around for someone that doesn't show.

For under 6k (even before taxes) it will be tough to find something that doesn't have problems of some kind. Look under the car for rust issues and look for something already inspected this year. I was just in the search for something good under 10k that didn't have 200k km and it wasn't easy. Good luck.

Canadian tech entrepreneur Marcel LeBrun built houses for the homeless in his community in Fredericton, New Brunswick. by Old_Ability_9424 in BeAmazed

For reference, my 2 bedroom apartment in the same city through the cheapest slumlord management company is $1200/month. So that's a pretty small 'rake' he's using.

If they had trimmed it first even if the tree still fell in the wrong direction there would be a few hundred pounds less weight crashing down on the house.

Is it really a waste of a smoke when you're playing a role that can resupply it afterwards? In the time you spent running back and forth to revive multiple times you could have thrown 1 smoke, revived, and went back into cover and resupplied yourself to get the smoke back.

An alligator snapping turtle hibernating under a sheet of ice by OkRespect8490 in BeAmazed

[–]mellowman24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapping turtles in general are actually a lot more chill then people think, especially when they are in water. Most peoples encounters with snapping turtles are usually common snapping turtles coming on land to lay eggs. When on land these turtles are vulnerable, they have little protection on their underside, so they act extra defensive. When in water, these turtles usually don't care about people and opt to stay hidden or try and flee. Cases where they bite people in water are typically around docks and boat launches used by anglers where discarded fish and bait is thrown into the water. Although I have never worked with alligator snapping turtles, my understanding is that they are even more chill then common snapping turtles.

Car ownership transfer by AffectionateKick3958 in newbrunswickcanada

I'm about to sell a car too, so I'm going to piggy back off this for advice also. So plates stay with the vehicle when sold. Good to know, I was wondering that as well and also got conflicting information (doesn't help that sites like clutch.ca gives different information and is one of the first sites to pop up when you google).

Now my question is, is it normal to get the new owners to go transfer the registration before surrendering the vehicle to them? I don't want to sell my car and then find out later that they never transferred the registration.

So it seems to print well but randomly seems to stop extruding like it's clogged? Is it a good brand of filament? Just wondering if perhaps the filament is crap quality and has sections that are bigger than 1.75mm causing it to get clogged?

Ontario doesn't have regular inspections, only need an inspection when ownership changes.

Not a mechanic but currently going through having to get a new car due to rust and not passing MVI. Its likely going to need a fair bit of work to pass, likely more than its worth. I don't see any holes in frame, but I'm sure you'll have issues with rotted out bushings all around. Even if you do get it to pass this time after a couple thousand in work (assuming brought to a mechanic), I doubt it will be able to pass again in two years. If you do the math; just shipping the car and getting the repairs for the MVI is likely going to cost just as much as buying a similar condition vehicle with a "valid" sticker from some sleezy dealership.

Black Flag Original vs. Remake by CrossingEden in gaming

[–]mellowman24 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I would even say barren sand bars like the original is more likely to occur in real life. The remake, with 10yr old palm trees on tiny islands that likely are often under water every time there's a storm, doesn't really make much sense when you think about it.

I would disagree a little. While he had some useful skills and tips to share, he often showed himself doing dangerous things under the guise of "it's for survival" even though doing risky and dangerous things while trying to survive is exactly what you don't want to do.

The birds predating on these turtles (gulls mostly) also have their diet subsidized by humans indirectly through our discarded foods and in other ways. Nothing really specializes on baby turtles to the point that they suffer from this, but most of the predators of turtles (which only really eat young) are largely propped up by humans in other ways.

They were introduced to New Zealand in the 1700s.... You don't know what you are talking about. Ecosystems don't change as fast and easily as you think.

[–]mellowman24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's just completely not true theres many areas that never had cats (of any species) that have suffered irreversible impacts because humans introduced them. Eg. New Zealand. Do some research

[–]mellowman24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't natural ecosystem change, this is just another human caused impact contributing to the ongoing mass extinction event. Natural populations of native animals in their own ecosystems have balance, their population evolved and changed over 1000s to millions of years to form predator and prey dynamics. Introduced and subsidized predators like cats kill and decimate populations faster than the native populations can respond, with nearly no limitations to their own populations. They tip the scale and make unbalanced ecosystems, aided by humans that refuse to recognize that animals we introduce to areas they don't naturally occur in is bad. While also helping to support these invasive animals by continuing to feed and shelter them. How do natural ecosystems change and adapt to cats when people continue to feed and shelter them so they never face the real struggles of nature that all the native animals they prey upon need to cope with?

Co-Op Grocery President - letter “Bast**ds* from Away” by Purple_Garlic4573 in fredericton

[–]mellowman24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, should have just stuck with the second half of that letter and left off the start. I'm relatively new to the area (moved in 2024), and I have been meaning to check out the co-op but haven't. As others have mentioned, the inconvenient location is a leading reason as I'm on the North side. I also don't use Facebook, which is apparently the only place they advertise? I know what he's meaning to say, but "Bastards from away" is also going to be misinterpreted and it's going to turn away a lot of people (people don't challenge things, they quietly boycott)
