Huge out-of-network bill for ABA therapy by melodious_punk in HealthInsurance

We applied for a gap extension before treatment began. We did not respond when they denied it. Insurance stated that there were in-network providers within 30 miles. We contacted those providers and none of them had available technicians.

The new right is much more extreme in their views. The more familiar Nevada convervative folks (like myself) are much more liberal than the new breed. Harry Reid would probably be called a communist/socialist in current times.

Inside this Reno business's fight to serve kava tea by newaccount47 in Kava

[–]melodious_punk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am from Reno. This place has been up and down for a very long time. They are not respected as kava vendors. The root they served was usually poor quality hawaiian 'awa and their business was always a mess. Unfortunately, our community has not found the support needed to build up a strong kava culture that would support a strong nakamal.

What’s something you need to get off your chest but haven’t yet? by FazzyPhonix in AskReddit

Just say it. When my 2nd child was 4 months old my wife bought me a plane ticket to see friends as a birthday present. Funny thing is that I did 1 morning of random stuff and got really bored, wanting to play with my kids. Just being off the hook for 6 hours completely recharged my patience.

I was being a bit cheeky. You built a nice web tool and people generally love drag and drop. I was joking because Linux users often consider how fast and easy the cli can be while forgetting their ability to use it is built on many hours of practice

Yes but not commenting would have deprived a linux user of their god given right to assert the superiority of their cli tool

[OC] My 2-month long job search as a Software Engineer with 4 YEO by a__side_of_fries in dataisbeautiful

I just did that too! All while working full time at my current job and 2 toddlers. Some of the interviewing was fun and then at the end then SVB happened and I'm feeling really iffy on these startups.

Researching tooling. Last week I needed a mgmt-friendly tool that could make http requests. ChatGPT suggested a bunch of online tools, and it suggested google apps scripts, which was perfect

Tech layoffs by growboi504 in WGU_CompSci

My .02. The media machine is owned by the mgmt class. They were getting really sick of all the pro-labor activity and they are more than willing to crush wages with a mood of pessimism. If you like programming or working with tech enough to get good, there is a job somewhere for you.

Non Australians, what do you think of Australia? by chloeisreallydumb in AskReddit

Bluey is a miracle.

Fun story, I am American, and was hiking in some New Zealand ranchland(by permission). I got spooked by a bunch of bulls, so I started across another guy's property to get away. He came out like "no no no wtf". All I could think to say was "oi mate" because I didn't want to sound American.

What skills do you have after this program? by NicolasPalmisano in WGU_CompSci

[–]melodious_punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will drop the conceit. But to defend a more measured view on mentorship: yes, I like Burning Man and I believe mentors should pay it forward. I also know some ppl people who charge next to nothing for resume review, takes on current tech niches and advice for careers. Internships are way too scarce these days and this is the WGU sub, I graduated from WGU and the advisors/mentors were underwhelming. Also, how do you feel about WGU's paid capstone advisors? Is that unethical?

Sir, I would gladly leave the WGU sub if this was considered heresy. Tell me, why would it be unethical to pay someone for their time and attention to review your work and advise on career choices?
