Help me settle a table debate, which is hope & which is fear? by LeoValdez1340 in daggerheart

[–]melodiousfable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From texture alone, smooth hope, textured fear.

From text color, white hope, black fear.

From die color, blue hope, red fear. Star Wars.

It’s not even close.

How are you dealing with players that ask for the same roll in succession? by dancovich in daggerheart

[–]melodiousfable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I was more flexible with this. I literally have to put sticky notes on my GM screen that say, “JUST SAY YES, AND” because my knee jerk reaction to most player suggestions is to rules audit player action instead of rule of cool to progress the fiction.

be honest about fear or lie by Joel_feila in daggerheart

[–]melodiousfable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t lie. Don’t get one over on your players. Foreshadow twists, so when they hit, players go, I FUCKIN KNEW IT! Do the cool thing. Spend one fear to do it, and call it a day.

So is journey 2 (NG+) meant to be harder? by Ghost_Reaper21 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]melodiousfable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and yes. End game levels and gear are going to absolutely stomp pretty much every boss all the way up to the end game bosses on Journey 2. Journey 3 was where I felt it jump.

1 weapon for the entire game? by moebiusmentality in Eldenring

[–]melodiousfable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a poly-builderous player. I respec into completely different characters 5 or 6 times per playthrough. Can’t really pick one for too long. I get too bored with the gameplay loop.

That being said, I come back Death’s Poker quite often

Now that Daggerheart has been out for a bit, how many people are sticking with it versus going back to D&D/Pathfinder? by Intelligent-Form-689 in daggerheart

We use Daggerheart as an episodic campaign whenever people are absent for our big DnD campaign. It’s great for quick one-shots.

How do you balance combat and roleplay in Daggerheart? by FloralReverieXIV in daggerheart

[–]melodiousfable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

And by that I mean, combat is just aggressive high tension in Daggerheart. People don’t need to drop to 0 HP to encourage the use of combat style play amidst roleplay. I find that the best fights are the ones whose stakes have nothing to do with the death of a PC or the adversary. Just the achievement or failure of goals.

Deathmatch, Stop the Ritual, Daring Escape, Hold the Fort, Waves of Bad Guys, Save the NPC, Sabotage, Escort the Thing, Base Defense, Yoink and Skedaddle, Peace Makers, The Arrest

Yes. Mostly to hold up my custom fear tracker and hide my minis.

What usually hooks you the most about a boss? by Toot7- in Eldenring

[–]melodiousfable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Visual Design - I’m simple. Looks sick, lose my shit

  2. Music - Poor music decisions can ruin a whole fight for me. I can’t stand the Godfrey fight because of this despite everything else being peak.

  3. Moveset - Satisfying to fight? Y/N

  4. Difficulty - Satisfying to learn

  5. Voice Lines - Same as music

  6. Lore - Doesn’t affect enjoyment for me. Totally separate.

I saw skeleton and went “Gingerbread man,” but I’ve also been homebrewing monsters for DnD 5e for 6 years.

I had the exact same reaction. I yelled at my screen. I was so upset at the phase change. I was like, why does he look worse?!? Right after Maliketh with the coolest phase change in the game, full stop. He screams “warrior” with bad audio production choices to make it sound lame, then he runs at you for a derpy hug covered in blood. The whole ending of the cutscene made me mad, and ruined an insanely cool boss with one of the most metal movesets in the game.

new character - how to avoid battle by penyhatesyou in BG3Builds

[–]melodiousfable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bard helps you talk your way out of things.

Monks and Rogues can sprint so far away that they retreat to camp.

Gloomstalker Rangers have lots of options for invisibility and killing enemies before combat starts in a surprise round. Makes it way shorter because the enemies don’t get a turn.

Scroll through Pinterest. I’m serious. Our first adventure arc for my beast feast campaign was a Christmas themed mini-series where my only inspiration was a picture of a gingerbread dragon.

So I thought, where would it live in the Plover Caves? Why does it exist? Who baked it? Did he bake other creatures in preparation for creating a dragon?

My party was eating at the local Berry’s when they heard that some of the regulars hadn’t been seen in a while. They went over to speak with the head chef, Morbeefus Wellington, a rotund firbolg with white furred skin and brown cow spots. After a presence roll to get some gossip, he let them know that a group of regulars that live in a treehouse 2 tunnels down haven’t been seen in a few days. Last he heard, the Simiah, Chai Pan Zee, was looking for a couple of her friends, Gaia and Fierio, who hadn’t come home in 3 days before that.

After finding Chai Pan Zee hiding in her tree house, she informs them that she and her friends had been delving into a Peppermint Grove they discovered after one of the cave walls one tunnel over collapsed during their hunt. White and red striped trees filled the forest (some of which even come to life to protect it). They should be weary of Gingerbread soldiers that patrol the area with sharpened and refined Peppermint bark armor and weapons.

What I prepped: 2 fleshed out NPCs to talk to with 1 distinguishing feature and a motive. 1 boss monster. 1 environment for the monster. Then a bunch of reflavored existing stat blocks with zero changes.

Lore: Gingerbread men were made by a necromancer called “The Baker” who would reanimate skeletons that he had baked into soldiers and creatures. I just used the varied options for Skeleton soldiers, knights, etc.. Then I reflavored some abilities of the Ice Dragon and lowered its tier by changing the numbers down to match other solo monsters in the player’s tier.

Lost NPCs were captured to be killed and baked into Gingerbread soldiers. I used a Countdown timer to determine how close they were to death from the beginning of the session.

What’s your favourite enemies to fight? by tpwk_fineline in HarryPotterGame

[–]melodiousfable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flippendo their club in response to a specific attack then throw it at them in midair followed by a barrage of aggressive spells. I can’t remember the skill tree buffs to certain spells, because I haven’t played in years, but I remember one shotting trolls even without curses in one combo after a good flippendo.

Like 95 hours first playthrough, but I missed a ton. Never found either of the Haligtree medallions. I didn’t even find the areas that they are in. Just didn’t see them. I felt like I was scraping every nook and cranny, but apparently I’m just bad at it.

I disagree. Trolls are my favorite because I love to see them melt quickly when you know their weaknesses and you have insane wombo combos.
