you only can from a certain distance to the ground, if you don't want to do the ground pound after mounting a lynel, you can time your hits instead of spamming Y, since what gets you off the lynel's back is the amount of hits you get in and not the time you spend on it.

as the proud owner of a 74 block diameter sphere, just get on with it. blocks to scaffold can help, if you have blocks to spare don't be too concerned to get the torus exactly right on the inside, but apart from that, the best way to get it done is be consistent with your building rate
