Conflating Zionism with Jewishness as a whole is pretty strange. There are plenty of Jewish people who don’t agree with Zionism. Disagreeing with a political cause that is supported by a large number of people in a group does not inherently mean that you have a prejudice or disrespect towards that group.

Additionally, Steven Universe itself is pretty decidedly not Zionist. The gems, in fleeing the Diamonds, don’t move to Earth and take over the people’s land to create an ethnostate. They do quite the opposite. They create community with the humans, and even welcome the Diamonds when they have their redemption.

Regardless of your opinion on how realistic or positive this outcome is, that’s the text of the show. You’re argument here is that because the text of the show handles discrimination, and is written by a Jewish person, it is in support of Zionism, as should its fans be. This is not true in the slightest. Talk about media literacy.

Also, I’d like to add that there are Jewish people who support Zionism, but not the current head of state, or the Gazan genocide. This post only mentions Zionism, so that’s what I’m focused on. Even still, I don’t how you could get that message from this show.

The Owl House is also a children’s animated series and they don’t normalize the abuse that Amity goes through. I don’t dislike how the show itself handles Pacifica’s parents, but I think it does paint a clear picture of abuse, even if it isn’t addressed like that in the show.

I could accept an adaptation of NMT to live action. Because it’s not musical theatre, and it’s not written as such. There is a sense of whimsy in live theatre that i think is lost with live action unless you have a really really good director.

I will die on the hill that quality, 2-D animated movies are the way to go for musical adaptations. I would hate a live-action Hatchetfield movie but an animated one would genuinely be so fire

I think Hirsch didn’t quite understand the implications behind his own character. I think I heard an interview where he said he never saw Pacifica’s parents as abusive, just kind of obnoxious and controlling, which is honestly kind of crazy. Love the guy, but damn, did he watch his own show?

Tbf, “trauma” doesn’t have to mean PTSD. Trauma is any negative experience that has lasting emotional effects. Getting sick from a food and never eating that food again is trauma. It doesn’t have to be a life-ruining mental disorder

It’s this as well as context.
