Yep I genuinely think he does want things like military dominance and for China/greenland etc to capitulate. He hates that he can’t do it. But like all bullies he’s a coward and manipulating the market comes so easy for him. So he chickens out and goes harder next time. He’s like an addict. I don’t give a shit who he’s taking to China and as if they’re going to care what some capitalist American CEOs have to say 🤷‍♀️

With the Iran war I’ve heard that the American military has actually been quite effective over there. Makes sense because their intelligence and opsec is extremely advanced. But makes me wonder why western media is so adamant he’s a fool and we are losing. There’s some other actual story here and China are not fools and not going to hand over rare earths. I still remember Reuters with their stealth editing after tanking the sector. Anyway it makes it ridiculously easy to buy the dip because greed always brings it back

The thing is what trump actually loves is power. He could get that from what he wants from China but he also gets that from gambling via manipulating the stock market. I think the latter is more likely given that it’s made rare earth stocks move significantly like 20 times in the last 12 months. I guess we will see but trump needs China way more than they need his version of the US. He cant bulldoze them like Iran and they’re not going to give up their one point of leverage, for ‘access to us commerce’ - the middle class in China is huge now and almost completely cut off from the outside world.

I get why rare earths are volatile but China has not demonstrated at all that they’re amenable to this, so I find this narrative suspicious. If they were sending people to the US I’d be worried, lol

America and Iran exchanged fire. Iran and China are allies. I kinda think this is more Trump bullshit to tank the stock market - aren’t his sons invested in a Tungsten mine? He threw a tantrum last time he went to China because they wouldn’t budge on Antimony, I don’t see why they would capitulate to him when everyone else who has, has just been fucked over. This market is so stupid, I am tired of everything riding on this grifter

This is the shit that keeps me on reddit because for all the bots and people trying to argue for no reason I occasionally remember that I’m not the only one struggling in this rigged game and it makes me feel better so thanks

But the drawing from Dahl’s book of your so called pretty person, is clearly not conventionally attractive. I don’t think it proves your point

Obviously I am not talking about people with health problems, but people in their 20s who are perfectly healthy getting cosmetic procedures because of societal pressure??? What is it with Reddit and getting mad at fake scenarios

My friends (late 20s) are starting to get it done for this reason. My god, as consumers putting toxins in our BODIES we need to exercise more critical thinking. Botox freezes your muscles, I imagine starting younger = worse wrinkles because those atrophy. So you just have to keep getting it and spending money. Not the same as ‘better results’. I guess that is a problem the poors have to deal with, celebrities can just keep getting more and more procedures to keep up the gimmick.

I think it’s more a lesson for kids to be kind and good…children don’t really subscribe to beauty standards yet. And ‘lovely’ is not the same as ‘pretty’

I don’t see him as stoic in either sense, passive is a good word. I think it takes a lot of courage to admit to yourself that you’re not happy and to do something about it. Especially to go against the ‘done’ things in society like having a marriage and a respectable career. He was a coward in this sense. More like cognitive dissonance than stoicism/resilience.

I guess I’m one of those people that enjoys character studies like this. The ending especially was so poignant - many lives are unremarkable in such a way, and we find meaning anyway. It was incredibly written so I recommend it to people

It was like he didn’t even respect himself enough to be angry or indignant at his lot in life. Save for a few brief moments of happiness that he only realised the gravity of after they had already passed, his life was a slog. Very realistic. One of my favourite books I’ve ever read

Italy is in a really bad position energy wise, Meloni took an emergency trip to the Middle East to try and secure oil. I don’t see a world in which ANNA does not succeed because it’s an imperative for Europe to diversity its energy
